A tale of barclays... one honest man in a company full of lies

I went into my branch today, to sort out my finances.
I told the bank that i would have no money coming in for approx 4 weeks (new tax credits claim) and i would stop my direct debits (although i was planning to move them to natwest) for the month and could they do anything about stopping me getting my usual £88 in reserve fees over this period.
I told them that the claim would be backdated and my account would be at least £200 in credit when it came in. They told me i would still be charged, and that there was no way to opt-out of the reserve facility whilst using it so another £96 was inevitable.
Then, i find my pin was blocked. Not a big deal but i called barclays on
08457 555555 to find out what was going on because i could not even use my online banking.
Then after asking the man for the details of all my direct debits so i can write them down  I mention the charges and how i can't get rid of the reserve. He then says:
'I CAN REMOVE THAT FOR YOU RIGHT NOW AND YOU WON'T INCUR ANY MORE RESERVE FEES, JUST INTEREST ON THE BALANCE!'
:eek::eek::eek:
So that means that just this morning, two people in my local barclays branch directly lied to me, and that they have been lying to me for months to get their £88/£96 a month rip off, because i first asked them in APRIL to take the reserve away!
So if anyone else is having reserve issues just call 08457 555555 and ask for it to be removed.

Christ! That would make me so p*ssed!!!!I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0

i would be making an appointment with the manager about this and asking for the money back since you first asked for this to be removedEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

Barclays Manager will be along any moment now I'm sure to clear the matter up.0

The guy is wrong, front line staff are told not to remove it during usage because the fees will just keep applying anyway, and won't disappear until the account is next in credit.
So sorry, but the telephone banking guy is wrong. Branch was right and did not lie. What would William Shatner do?0 -
He said on the phone reserve is gone, fees on 14th Aug and Sept that i accrued already but there will be no more. I will be going to see my branch in the morning to see who lied to me!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

Branch staff, including managers, have no discretion to refund Reserve fees or cancel pending charges except in cases of bank error or fraud. Neither apply here. What would William Shatner do?0 -

Telephone banking lied to you.
If you don't believe me, and you don't believe the branch when they say the exact same thing, ask them to show you "Branch SID."What would William Shatner do?0 -
Well i will be in there first thing and posting what happens. To be honest from Barclays nothing would surprise me. It was a Barclays worker (not from my local branch) who directed me here and told me to apply for financial hardship.Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

Glad you got it sorted and no more fees !
The only thing I would say though is that there is no point going into the branch to complain, as in they are only following rules from their Head Office and the staff member from "insert town name here" has no say/power/authority to do anything so you're wasting your own time again going in and complaining to that person. They will say to you "We ll have a chat with that member of staff and see if they need to retrain on certain areas (blablabla)". Just trying to save you time. Oh btw .... I don't work for Barclays.Originally Posted by Dr Cuckoo3
