Does it seriously matter who lied to him? Either way the company has lied to him.

On the basis of one employee in telephone banking, he's accusing the entire branch network of lying.

So yes, it matters which way round it is.

    I'm a she!

I'm unimpressed with barclays as a whole as it seems they have done nothing to help and are just pushing me further into debt, the harder i try to claw my way back out of the red, the harder they push

So at worst, the whole branch lied to me, maybe just one man lied to me, but they have all been distinctly unhelpful, except for the telephone man. I asked him how much the inerest would be, and he says

'i don't know the interest rate but it's going to be a lot cheaper than £22 every 5 working days!'

You could substitute any bank for Barclays and have the same end result so it doesn't really work for me.

I was trying to clear up the meaning of this post

I agree it would apply to any bank, but there is a nice cadence to barclays banker that you just dont get with HSBC banker!

I did say i wasn't sure, rhyming slang is not something i'm familiar with , maybe dacouch will come back and help us out :o

Was the telephone banking person in a foreign call centre by any chance?

This is a BIG problem with Barclays. The foreign call centre staff are a COMPLETE AND UTTER WASTE OF TIME. Most of them don't have two brain cells to rub together.

I've given up calling them. They never understand what you are actually calling about. What they tell you is nearly always wrong - and then they bl**dy try and SELL you something!!!! Makes me mad!

British jobs for British people, serving British customers - that's what I say.

Barclays should STOP employing people abroad to serve British customers.

What are foreign companies doing to support British jobs in this recession? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! So Barclays should close their foreign call centres and employ people here instead.

Just one question for the OP. The reserve was always your choice to have or not. Why did you not cancel it sooner? You presumably have online banking where it is shown clearly if you have opted to have it. No good complaining now when it was your decision to have it. Is the account still showing a minus balance? As you say you normally get £88 charges per month perhaps you should have sorted your indebtedness to the bank out sooner.

I have barely been out of it for a week since i first went in it! The thing is, i got my money weekly and then the bank would take almost all the money for one week in charges, so i'd be short the next week and end up in it again. I went into the bank to sort this out and was told that they were not going to stop charging me and that the reserve was 'doing me a favour'?!

And then i was told that 'there are £96 due to come out so you will be charged again with higher charges then if you get rid of the reserve now'

So yes, i tried, and i was lied to!

Would actual charges for failed DDs plus unauthorised OD charges have been less than reserve fees?

Now I'm not preaching but when you sail so close to the wind you would be better to have just a post office account with no provision for DDs. Draw the cash out and pay bills manually.
