A tale of barclays... one honest man in a company full of lies

  • I note that you are also unable, or perhaps unwilling, to address the direct criticisms of your heralded pension system. Instead you try to hide behind the veil of such discussion being xenophobic.

The pension system is not heralded. It is just decent. It moved from a 30 year scheme to a 40 year scheme, precisely to make it affordable. There may have been attempts between 1974 and 1976 to make Portugal a socialist utopia, but maybe googling the 1989 constitution might help the debate.

Retirement ages were equalised just as in the UK, to comply with EU legislation.

Finally, I would associate the word 'passion' with Goethe, Shakespeare or even (closer to home) Pessoa; definitely not with espousing the Barclays line!

  • Hell, I've even this morning advised someone to go in to their local branch and demand a refund from the manager due to a card fraud taking too long. I even offered to resolve it from head office if she didn't get what she wanted.

Once again the line between being an independent forum member and acting pp Barclays is completely blurred.

This forum hardly suits itself to discussion of the UK financial system as a whole, and it is more pertinent to discuss matters relating to Barclays and our policy and procedure most of the time.

I did, on one occasion, have cause to discuss the Building Societies Act of 1986 and the effect it had on Abbey, the rampant demutualisation etc., but it's hardly a common occurrence to be able to discuss such things here.

I am at home for the rest of the week to write about gilt edged securities - we can discuss if you'd like...

There's plenty of examples on this forum where I haven't defended our policies, and even referred people straight to our complaints team to resolve the issue.

Hell, I've even this morning advised someone to go in to their local branch and demand a refund from the manager due to a card fraud taking too long. I even offered to resolve it from head office if she didn't get what she wanted.

So I hardly defend everything. ;)

That statement in itself supports my case, perhaps you should consider approaching MSE and get registered as a formal Barclays Representative:rolleyes:, that action alone, clearly exceeds your declared profile it seems.
  • I'm going to jump into this and risk a verbal bashing, here goes.

I have had a bank account for over 20 years, never needed to complain and never paid any fees/charges. Have I just been lucky or do I only spend the money I have in my account?

I think BarclaysManager has used an upfront and appropriate name for all posts. Clearly there have been problems, resolved issues, successes and failures. It is good to have people on the inside offering points of view about a wide variety of matters.

I have never banked with Barclays. I have been chased by rogue debt collectors who say I did.

I appreciate he thinks my posting was becoming a personal attack but as I dont know the man I cannot say whether I think he is a nice person or not. I also have nothing against the business Barclays conduct in this country.

I just dont think BM fully appreciates the history of the organisation he works for and what has been done "in his name", as he is so defensive about the company, as per my assertion and Inactive's opinions also.

I also think he is not using a wide enough definition of racism, it is as if he thinks well we never told a black person they could not have an account so everything is fine. It is not, in fact it is far from it and it is my opinion he is selecting the parts of the past he likes and discarding those he does not, but then who has not at some point.

I certainly do - they are dire and as you say, will only get worse!

He always jumps to the defence of Barclays but to be fair, he also does post some good stuff.

He accused me of having a vendetta against him, I don't, I just do not buy his bollox which seems too regular an occurance for my liking. He tries to tell me about consumer debt and consumer related credit and doesn't quite grasp that he works for the enemy and so will not understand the same laws as me, he knows the illegal and unethical banking practices that they force down your neck at BM school where I prefer to use the facts given by the government bodies etc......

BM if you're reading I do not have a vendetta against you, just try to accept that sometimes you have to back down.

Barclays are one of the worse banks (after Capital One of course)....... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Very interesting, I wonder what BM will make of the line "crimes against humanity" in the article.

I await it being rationalised away.

Edit: or simply ignored as if it does not really matter, as in his words he is proud of helping to sail the ship, as I recall.
