Taking drinks onto a plane.

I'd like to take a few drinks for my son onto a flight this summer. From what I can see I'll be restricted to 100ml put in a clear plastic bag.

I'm sure I took Capri sun last year which is 200ml.
I know I could buy drinks to take on after going through security or buy on the plane but they are such a rip off.
Anyone have any hints or tips to save a few extra pennies on drinks or will I just have to bite the bullet fork out?
I've got some fruit shoots in the fridge but have just checked and they are 200ml.

Could you not take a couple of 100ml bottles of cordial and buy water airside?
  • I thought you could buy drinks after you been thru security so i assumed even if there over 200mls that would be ok! Will have to check as we are a party of 9 and buying airplane drinks will cost lots!

Yes, you can buy drinks after security to take on but they do tend to be a bit pricey.

You can buy liquids over 100ml once you get through Security - this can include shampoo, sun cream, mouthwash or bottles of water, cans of pop etc of any size.
What you need to remember though is that a lot of airlines (including Ryanair) can be quite strict about the 'one piece of hand luggage' rule so anything you buy in the Departure area will need to be able to fit inside your hand luggage.
Ryanair may NOT enforce this rule but they CAN if they wish to.

I guess it depends on how much your son will want to drink on the plane. 100ml is not a lot and you'll have the bother of decanting a drink into a suitable container(s).

The alternative is to buy from WHSmith or somewhere similar when you get airside. I'd not buy any drinks (excpet a G&T :D) on the plane.

I once got free volvic water with the telegraph in Prestwick airport, only time I have ever bought it.
