has anyone had the situation where it's not their own pre-existing medical condition that threatens cancellation of the trip but that of a close relation who is not actually travelling?
my dad's due a heart operation and I might have to cancel my holiday depending when the op falls, yet all companies I've found exclude pre-existing conditions of close relatives....any suggestions would be welcome.0 -
According to the cheap-travel-insurance page - "Age 65-74: The Flexicover* policy is £26 for an individual in Europe (£37 for a couple), and £36 worldwide (£61 for a couple)."
Following the Flexicover link takes me not to Flexicover, but to moneysupermarket.com's form "Compare travel insurance quotes for over-65s"
The cheapest quote for a couple worldwide was for a "double excess" policy (which didn't seem a good idea) that cost £89.98. The cheapest Flexicover was £119.
European cover started at £60.25 for the "double excess" and Flexicover started at £77.
These figures don't match up.Am I missing something? Or does the article need updating?

I had same problem as erik99 and thus endorse his thoughts. I have gone through Help the Aged website to 'intune' and got what seems a very decent quote. £82-35 annual premium for Europe covering Winter Sports (I am a keen skier) which hasn't been loaded for my existing medical conditions - rheumatoid arthritis, high cholesterol, deep vein thrombosis & thyroid deficiency. I'm now waiting for the paper work and hope there isn't a catch!!!0

:rotfl: I have been trawling through all morning looking for travel insurance for myself and my husband. My husband is insulin dependant diabetic, takes 1 tablet per day for high blood pressure, and 1 for cholestrol. He also had triple bypass 12 years ago, but is on no medication at all for that. He is 65 and I am 62.
So many companies turned him down or loaded him for the bypass, but Floyds Direct on 0800 1613122 was the best, they charges £167.22 for an annual insurance worldwide including USA for the both of us (I took the Personal Possesions off as I get that on our household policy, that saved 10%). You obviously have to go through a screening process which all of them seem to send you to, but this screening one said they would insure him with no extra premium at all. They only intersted in the past 5 years.
It also has a freephone number which is an added bonus. So anybody having problems try them, they also have a website, www.floydsdirect.co.uk but I decided I wanted to talk to somebody direct.0 -

i am searching for some travel insurance for a friend of the father-in-law but as he is 73 and going away for 8 weeks to america i am strugling. i found an annual cover policy with saga which could include upto 90 days cover which would be perfect if it wasn't for the fact it excludes the usa is there anywhere i could get a quote from which doesn't cost the earth and covers between 8 and 12 weeks?
all help appreciated as he is paying £320 at the moment and he goes more than once a year
Try Floyds Direct Tel. 0800 1613122. I have just got Worldwide Insurance (including USA) for myself and my husband for £167.22. He is aged 65 and me 62. He has Insulin dependant diabetes, 1 tablet each for blood pressure and cholestrol. He also had a triple bypass 12 years ago. I was having real trouble trying to find insurance, then found this one. Give them a try.0 -
Just a quick thank you AGAIN to MSE; this time for travel insurance with pre existing medcons on line quote from Travelbility via MSE link elicited £78.80 annual excl US, Canada and Carribean which is comparable with some "ordinary ones"
So I'm off to Brazil, Madeira, France, Spain all on the kids inheritance - I love being 60!0 -
What would be interesting to know is what are the exact criteria that the various companies use.
My wife & I are both just over 60, with heart complaints, wife has a pacemaker. We have tried most of the companies that are mentioned in this thread and were amazed at some of the responses we got from companies that "so-called" specialise in our age group and pre-existing conditions. Several wouldn't even quote, yet I have seen posts from people who appear to be at risk of dropping dead at any moment saying they got really cheap insurance from these companies.
We just use Saga now, they will insure us at a reasonable price (last one, £93, for both, for 16 days on QE2 to Egypt) and having had to make a claim previously on them for nearly $30,000 we know that when it comes to the crunch they will come up with the goods, AND they don't seem to have loaded us for that claim.0 -
