Just thought I would mention able2travel.com. After a day or so of being told that my conditions would not be covered i have taken out an annual policy with the above company (via C H facilities of poulton-le-fylde). Im cant be sure its the cheapest but its well worth getting a quote from.

As promised, I'd be back if it panned out! :money:
Well that particular company Didn't (an American one), they don't seem to know the difference between an elbow & a nose, if you know what I mean.
Would have been nice if it did pan-out, as it was only $96 for both adults & child on an Annual Worldwide (including USA & Canada) policy..
However my advice is; Keep on checking out the leads given in the Forum as one is going to suit somewhere along the line. it's just a case of timing with some of the companies.
In this case :j the insurance cover finally accepted with price and medical conditions covered, at last! Was a renewal with the old insurance Co, Insure and Go
They covered Worldwide inlc USA Canada with Asthma under control & resent heart attack with stents fitted.
Here's the crunch so to speak;
Let 6 weeks pass by before applying for cover, with No Meds being changed or any Angina problems or chest pains.:money:
Thanks to ALL that assisted on this quest, especially Tomsmum. :A
But not that Insurance expert! don't get cought out there.0 -
So pleased you got sorted Bobrobin :T .
It can be a pain trying all the different places, we all have different needs and it's nice that people on here are willing to share their experiences. I was so grateful to the person who responded to my original question and suggested Columbus, hundreds less than one stupid quote from a company who renaged on the medical conditions they originally covered and still a couple of hundred less than plenty of others. Columbus worked for us, sadly not for you but so glad that Insure and Go have come up trumps for you.0 -
I've just been through this particular "mill". I want to go to Canada for a month next year and will be 74 then.
SAGA wanted £315, but my travel agent had an apparent good deal through their contact, but I had to make an 0870 phone call about my "medical condition."
They wanted to know what prescription pills and why? "Don't know" was not good enough; I HAD to give a Yes/No answer so I asked my GP. He agreed with me that he was unable to give a Yes/No answer to the specific question either, but he considered I was as fit as anyone else of my age.
I tried my EGG credit card, who deal with AXA Insurance, and they give a 10% discount if you charge it to their credit card, so I've got mine for £91. Maybe I might have been lucky if I'd shopped around, but it seems a hell of a saving compared with SAGA and, at my age, beggars can't be choosers. They don't really want our business!0 -

What rubbish we have to go through!

They're all FULL of that trick!
Hope they cover all that's needed should it be needed.

SAGA DON'T do any favours for the over 50's Ripp-off. :eek:0 -
try
http://www.acetravelinsurance.com
they too only cover uptp age 64, but for pre-existing medical conditions they have a simple disclaimer. Thdey seem great
no.....
understand that anybody travelling on a trip will NOT be covered if- receiving or on a waiting list for treatment at a hospital or nursing home.
so far my cheapest cover has been with columbus.....
me = 39 with high blood pressure and awaiting gall bladder removal in january, after my trip. non-smoker.
other half = seems to be healthy!
going to the usa for 3 weeks, they quoted £96 for single trip or £110 annual (that's for both of us). best ive found so far...0 -
What about the new Alliance and Leicester bank account? If you are over 50 it costs £10 a month but gives worldwide insurance for up to age 79 and 8% interest on first £2500 Also £750 for medical consultations. http://www.alliance-leicester.co.uk/currentaccounts/index.asp?page=home&ct=primarymenu0

This is useless for people with pre-existing medical conditions. If you read the small print I think you will find that the travel insurance is useful only for people who are well. For £120 per year you couild get an annual policy with someone like Help the Aged. Three years ago I had such a policy for around £120 and it covered all my medical problems (heart etc). The following year they sent a renewal notice but as I did not want to travel until six months later I did not take them up on it. Then, when I did want to have a new policy, my health problems were no longer covered. Also, there are better accounts paying interest of around 6.25% but for all the time you have the account. A & L always seem to bringing out new accounts but they are never as good as they seem.0 -
MY OH and i both have pre existing conditions - admittedly not too serious - but enough for Direct Travel to charge us double their normal premium but as we can answer the simple questions asked by A&L we can have their free insurance without penalty so I wouldn't claim it's "useless" for people with pre-existing conditions. Sure, if I'd had a heart transplant they wouldn't want to know but if I was over 70 and healthy I think it would be a good deal. They also offer two hospital consultant appointments , including tests to the value of £750 per person per year...a decent perk I think for people without private health insurance.0

Try Makesure Insurance on Tel. 0870-156-6679. They offer Travel Insurance for persons up to aged 99 inclusive, and they can cover persons with a pre-existing Medical condition (including Cancer, Heart conditions etc). Hope this is of help to someone.0
