could i ring them or would i have to pass the number along0

I don't see the problem with you ringing them and telling them you are doing it on behalf of your father in law. As long as you have full details of the trip and can answer all the medical questions that might arise - does he have any medical conditions, does he take any medication and what for, etc.
Make sure you do have all the details as a lot of people of that age have something that should be noted. Don't forget they require a full medical history. My hubby had to declare stuff such as a back injury/operation over 20 years ago, a hernia from about 10 years ago, pericarditis (related to heart) from 11 years ago. They might ask about any recent/pending hospital appointments. Just make sure you know all the details or perhaps you can ring when you're with your father in law so you can ask him then pass the answers on.0 -
Covermytravels.com came up trumps for us. I have a complicated medical history but the agent, after checking with the underwriter, actually also took the trouble to see which type of policy would suit us best (we are going to NZ early next year) before quickly calling me back. He said the policy wouldn't be loaded, no exclusions, and came up with annual cover at less than £100 for us as a couple, because we are both under 65 (cheaper than a single trip as different age bandings apply!). The cover is for worldwide, including the USA. I paid several times that amount to another insurer for a single trip to the US, on my own, earlier this year. The covermytravels agent was helpful and efficient. I reckon the company must be worth a call - it even has a freephone number: 0800 917 7829!
Just a note: apologies if you have read this information. I posted something earlier but can't find it now!0 -
Trying to find travel insurance for someone who's had one bout of pancreatitis over 2 years ago, has Hepatitis c and liver fibrosis and also suffered kidney, respiratory and liver failure after getting pneumonia and septicaemia over 2 years ago. Has a couple of other conditions as well
Medicover are quoting £400
Some will insure with pancreatitis, others will not. Same goes for hepatitis
any suggestions please?0 -
Have you tried Columbus, 0800 083 9503 mentioned in a previous thread.
My hubby has a lot of previous medical conditions and one permanent current one. They make a note of and cover any declared condition occurring over 12 months ago but do not load for it according to what they told him. Any current conditions they may or may not load depending on what it is.
We had been quoted from over £200 to £900 approx for a worldwide (excluding USA) annual multi-trip from a few different companies. Columbus charged us £77, everything fully covered.
You could give them a ring and see what they come up with. They work Sundays if you're in a hurry!0 -
Sounds too good to be true. Post Office was really cheap as well and would cover for everything but because he had dialysis over 2 years ago, they won't cover kidney failure.
Will give them a buzz anyway0 -
As I thought I had rung them yesterday (really should have kept a list of everyone I called). They won't accept him. Have just tried It's So Easy and they won't either0

Just to help anyone else with their research...
I wanted annual multi-trip for me (25) with 3 pre existing conds: ovarian lump removed last winter, anxiety, and chronic myalgic syndrome (muscle pain).
Cover My Travels
quoted £82 but wouldn't cover ovarian lump as within last 12 months and said they don't cover anxiety.
Columbus
quoted £65 but said they don't cover anxiety and therefore wouldn't cover me for ANY pre existing conds!
24 Dr Travel
Quoted £67 premier, £54 standard but when they asked if ovarian lump was benign or cancerous I explained the consultant said "very rare so impossible to say for definite, but probably benign". Idiot woman then said if I couldn't say for definite I couldn't have cover for it as one of the boxes needed to be ticked! I even asked if I could have it covered as a cancerous tumour and she said no.
Prudential
quoted £90 excluding ovarian lump and said if I wanted it covered they would have to check with the underwriters and get back to me.
ACE Travel Insurance
quoted £66 and when I offered to explain my 3 conditions they said it was ok and they just had to ask me the script of questions. Most important one being "are you currently having treatment" and as I'm not, they said all fine, all covered! They don't cover replacement of lost medication tho.
Was pleased with simpleness of ACE procedure/questions. Hope this helps others!0 -
Just got covered with Aberdeen Insurance ( 01472 826672) for 8 days in Europe, for £16 odd. i was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago and am still having some treatments, so this is a really good deal. Very nice lady on the phone, knew what she was talking about and says they don't add premiums for bc sufferers, as the risks are not that much greater and so far, the number of claims has been quite low.
Hope this helps someone.0
