As I thought I had rung them yesterday (really should have kept a list of everyone I called). They won't accept him. Have just tried It's So Easy and they won't either

I apologise if I have got the wrong end of the stick but I am new to this forum and I can't yet work out how to get your original message. I am assuming that you are talking about getting travel insurance for someone with a pre-existing health history?? Try MIA Online 01268 782745 - It would depend on destination and severity (They actually only decline people who really should not be travelling) - They are also happy to provide guidance on destinations, medical facilities etc. Good Luck!

I'm looking for a friend who has ANN cover world wide, he has an existing policy in effect now BUT it expires before his next trip, he's afriad of asking for renewal with existing Co as they took so long in giving the original some 4 yrs ago & just renewed each year since. Now having suffered a recent heart attack complete with stents taking 4 or 5 meds a day, declaring this in the pre-existing conditions for quotes, they are coming in at between 500+ to 1400.
Reading some of these forum entries suggests he/we may be doing something wrong!

Tomsmom; has suggested Columbus in her replys to others, befor we call them, Any good sound advise Please.

I have posted in the past re American Express travel insurance (beware) the cost of the hospital bill was rediculas even though the Asthmatic conditions were declared and premiums paid for cover.
So maybe you can understand some of the delema here!

Your friend would probably be better to steer clear of annuals for the time being and go for single trip policies and restricting his destinations to Europe. With annuals (especially worldwide) Insurers have no control over where you are travelling or how often you travel. As such the criteria for screening will be harsher. As they can can invoke the reciprocal agreement in Europe they would be more comfortable in providing cover. Check out MIA Online

Most Insurers would not provide cover until a year free from problems and some ask for 2 years. So give it at least a year before trying again for annual insurance.

Some very good recommendations on here. I currently have an annual worldwide policy with www.nationwide.co.uk which covers both my and my hubby's pre-existing conditions. I also declared that my dad had pulmonary emboli 4-5 years ago and that's covered.

The policy also covers some hazardous activities as long as they are a one-off and not the main reason for the holiday, eg jet skis and parascending.

It's not the cheapest policy, but I feel the cover is good. You don't know how good your insurance is until you need to make a claim, but I'm hoping that the Nationwide would be good with being a reputable company.
  • Has anybody tried this MIA?

Their web site is something else, fonts are so small a magnify glass is need to read anything! :search:
All other web pages open just fine for me & easy to read but not this one...
Can't even find the quote page for INSURANCE, :search: can find a listing of any personal Med Conditions should I have purchased it.

Bobrobin, I've just been to have a look at MIA out of curiosity. Print size was OK for me, normal size, no problem. I clicked on Enter Site and a new window opened.

I get the impression you become a "member" and you can then access your personal and medical details 24/7 from anywhere in the world. You have to input your details or they will do it at a fee starting at £10. You can purchase travel insurance through their "agents" or direct by phone. Maybe that's why you can't find a page to quote you online. It's a bit confusing, I can't make out whether you can purchase online or not.

It tells you that you become a member when you purchase insurance. On another page it gives prices for membership and tells you that you can purchase membership online. Seems a bit confusing and contradictory but then again I didn't spend long there so maybe I didn't take it all in. I didn't like the site very much, takes quite a while for the pages to load (and I'm too impatient!) and personally I wont be using them in the future.

What also put me off is that they state that cover for Australia for 31 days starts at £69 for someone up to age 65 years (presumably with medical conditions that they are willing to cover). Considering that hubby and I have got ANNUAL MULTI-TRIP worldwide policy covering both of us, he having 5 medical conditions to declare and the duration of our Australia trip is 39 days, and this cost us £77 both covered. I'm not overly impressed.
  • It would seem you have found just as I did but you got a better view than I, re font.
Your more patiant typing than I,I to found it all confusing.
I was declind at Columbus unfortuneatly.
  • Try MIA Online 01268 782745 (www.miaonline.co.uk) if you don't get through to an advisor straight away you can leave a name and number and they will phone you back.

My experience of trying this contact.
Is & WAS NOT a good one, they appear to come here on this thread giving information for pre existing medical cover only to guide you to a very frustraiting web site, (confirmd by other user) so try speaking to them live on the phone only to meet up with a rather o'kard person on the other end to say the least, that won't give any info re insurance, just to keep asking for personal details in order to pass-it-on, then maybe someone will call you back.
    What happened to the above;
if you don't get through to an advisor straight away you can leave a name and number and they will phone you back.
Not full personal details to some recieptionist.

I am sorry that Columbus couldn't help you. I don't know of any more that I could suggest you try. I do hope someone else comes along and mentions someone that you haven't already tried and that you get sorted soon.

Hmmm had a look at their website and I got the same impression as TomsMom - figured you either pay a membership first to be able to get a quote on the insurance. And they shouldn't ask for a lot of personal details if they're just arranging a call back.

Edit: had a look the the user profile who posted this link in the first place... they quote their homepage as the miaonline site that's been posted....suspect it might be self-promotion...?
    It's Probably SPAM!
