  • O.H. recently been diagnosed with AF (Atrial Fibrilation). Have rung our Nat West Advantage Card insurers...who said they couldn't cover him. Then rang Medicare..and got told same from them!

He is 60 - just on warfarin and high blood pressure tablets. Any help gratefully received of anybody we could try!

Mmm.... there have been a good few posts on medical conditions for around 60+ age group with heart related conditions in the last couple of pages on this thread.

YOu could try calling British Insurerance Broker's Association on 090 1814 0015 for advice or visit their website http://www.biba.org.uk

I work in the travel insurance industry and wanted to offer this piece of advice to people who suffer from / have suffered from cancer (or any medical condition):

A lot of the time people declare cancer when they don't actually need to. People think they need to declare every condition. ALWAYS read the terms and conditions of the policy especially the medical declaration (if you are shopping about for quotes = get your broker / insurance provider to read it out to you). So many people are charged extra premiums when they can agree with the medical declaration and therefore do NOT need to declare the condition, and would have had full cover without mentioning it.

If someone declares a condition when they can agree with the terms and conditions of the policy the insurance provider has every right to charge them an additional premium for it.

Alot of the time insurance providers / brokers will put people through to Medical Screening knowing that they will be charged - this means more money for them! Explain to them that you want them to read the declaration out in full no matter what!! Even if you feel that you need to declare something, you may have other conditions which you declare to Medical Screening (they normally HAVE to take details of it if you say it) that you don't need to.

    I hope this helps someone.

Can someone tell me exactly what Pre existing conditions mean.
I have had cancer but I am completely cured.
I've looked at a web site for pre existing conditions and it's all about if you suffer from cancer. I don't. Do I have to declare my cured cancer to get Insurance cover.

In my experience it is best to tell the Insurance Company EVERYTHING about your medical history. If you are on holiday and break a leg, if you have not declared any pre-existing condition, (even your cured cancer) Insurance companies can use this as an excuse not to pay out. You should not have to pay any extra as your condition no longer exists, but tell them anyway. A friend of ours was on holiday in Dubai when her husband died of a heart attack. Because he had not declared that he had suffered from stress & depression 3 years previously, they would not pay out. Insurance companies I believe have a right to contact your GP for your medical history if you make a claim.

  • I just phoned "Cover my Travel" for the recommended travel insurance for my medical condition (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) only to find they don't cover it because according to them it is: PSYCHOLOGICAL!!!!

How out of date and insulting is that!!!
  • Just arranged travel insurance through Prudential - 0800 300 300 - for £17.59 (single trip to Europe). 'STA Travel' won't cover pre-existing conditions and 'Cover My Travel' wouldn't cover my Endometriosis as I have had surgery within the past 12 mths.

It's all about the Pru! :j

I'm so ANNOYED! I've been trying to find someone who will cover us CHEAPLY for the last two hours without success. We are a couple, aged 26 and 29. My husband had a hernia op 4 months ago. He was discharged the day after the op and has had no problems since and does not have to go back to see anyone about it. We are otherwise fit, healthy and YOUNG!!! My husband even does a job where he has to lift heavy things every day. Can we get cheap cover annually?? I don't think so. The cheapest I have found is £150 per year (!!!!!!) with those for no pre existing conditions only £40. Cover my travel won't even look at us because it's happened in the last 12 months. I don't understand it, I really don't.
  • I completely understand your annoyance fluffbag1, have you since been able to find anyone that is able to help?
