I had heart bypass operation 4 years ago and got insurance cover this year through "allclear personal travel" and cost me £83.00 for a year for Europe, the cost for my wife was the same but she has no pre existing conditions and is in good health,I assume her rate was the same as mine due to the fact I could be ill and she would stay with me.When I tried other companies for my wifes insurance they all asked if she would be travelling with anyone with pre existing conditions.:T0

hi,
i just wanted to share my experience with everyone.
my dad is 72 and has had a fair amount of medical history.
He had been refused travel insurance to the USA from a number of insurers, the cheapest quote being for £1200 single trip with a £5k excess!
anyway, thanks to martin's website, i found two possible contenders:
we applied online to open a lloyds tsb premier current account, which includes free worldwide travel insurance and they will accept people up to the age of 80 and with pre-existing medical conditions the cost to have the account is £25 a month, although the first 6 months are discounted at £12.50, so total cost is £225 for the first year.
we will just wait to see if my dad will get the lloyds tsb insurance for free or if they will ask for any more money to increase the level of cover.
the second great find (again, thanks to martin) was the website: http://www.covermytravels.co.uk/
we put all the info that we were asked for but we weren't asked about previous ops or smoking habits, only about pre-existing conditions (diabetes) and whether my dad had had any circumstances in the past 12 months, which he has not. it didn't ask about previous operations, either.
the quote for a week in las vegas was £157 with a reasonable excess, which was far better than the previous quote of £1200!
i would not recommend withholding info under any circumstances but sometimes the insurer gives you a real grilling/screening and then cover my travels just asked some fairly basic questions before generating the quote.
so, if lloyds tsb fall through, we have cover my travels to fall back on :-)
i hope this helps someone...good luck!0 -
My husband and I are lucky enough to have a holiday home in Florida and need to obtain insurance cover for 180 days (maximum allowed with a B2 visa) each year when we go to the USA. I am 60 and he is 58.
So far we have used Insure&Go from the internet. To give you an idea the maximum payment for 2 of us (with no excesses) is quoted at the moment at 160.24 per person for 180 days cover. It is cheaper of course if you elect to pay excesses but for the difference and bearing in mind USA medical costs we decided to take the highest cover.
We have insured with them 3 times so far - twice with no claims. However when we return home next week we will both be submitting claims so it will be interesting to see how promptly they repay my bill (less than 500 we have to pay ourselves and reclaim) and pay my husband's bill to the hospital which will be more than 500,
We gather from other friends over here (there are many British couples who have bought in The Villages retirement community here) that it gets more difficult the older you get. If anyone knows of any better insurance companies than Insure&Go I would appreciate hearing from you.0 -
All/any advice appreciated.
I wish to take my 94 yr old father on a cruise. It is a 7 day trip from UK to 3 European ports. He is in good health.
Firstly does he need cover over and above the EHIC?
Secondly, if yes, any insurers who would consider him?
Thanks0 -
I obtained two policies recently for a friend who is 81; £27.49 for 9 days and £37.0l for two weeks (both in Europe). The company was Mediquote Limited.0

Just to pass on my experince:-
I have been trying to obtain a quote for my Mother who is 61 and suffers from:-
- Chronic renal failure (Kidney Transplant 8 years ago)
- Arthritis
- Diabetes (Insulin Dependant)
- Hypertension
With this in hand I have tried a number of companies with very differing quotes from £900 to £94.61 for Anuall Muti-trip including USA.
The best quote was from Columbus Direct 0800 980 1030 for £94.61 with max 60 day single trip duration.
I hope this helps0 -
Useful for pre-existing diabetes, type 2, tablet controlled and otherwise in good health for 1 adult. Family of 5 including 21 yr old in FTE. European cover £71.31 for 12 months.0

I am having treatment every few weeks which is stabilising my crohns - I guess there is no one out there who would touch me now? Have had annual insurance, last one included pre existing but prior to that excluded my crohns.0

Medici quoted me £9.69 for a 4 day trip to Poland which covers all my medical conditions; Norwich Union Direct was 21.93 which excluded the one I particularly needed cover for.
Thanks Martin. Hugs and Kisses.
