I have just taken out a policy (single trip) to go to America with covermytravels, I tried all Martins recomendations Age concern would not cover, Saga £850, Free Spirit £2450, got cover from covermytravels for £170. My pre conditions are clot 10years ago and RA for 35years.
I spent hours of research before finding this company.
    Thanks for your advice.

I've just tried covermytravels but they won't cover my clotting Factor V Leiden condition, even with an additional premium. I am 64 and had a thrombosis 10 years ago and have not taken medication since. So if anyone has this condition, I would recommend declaring it just in case. I have a quote from Rias which adds £9.50 to the annual multi trip premium to cover this condition. This seems reasonable.
  • I have recently taken out an annual worldwide (inc. USA) travel insurance for my wife and I through the Atlas Direct website for £67.00

My wife and I are both in our late 50s.

My wife has 3 pre-existing medical conditions for which she takes regular medication.

I contacted the company's medical screening unit, answered some questions and was delighted to find out the policy would not be subject to additional loading - we received some documentation to attach to the policy to cover the pre-existing medical conditions.

I found the whole process of dealing with Atlas Direct, both via the website and telephone a very straight forward experience.

This company can be contacted at https://www.atlasdirect.co.uk

  • Hi, I've been trying to find cover for my 42 year old husband with a brain tumour, epilepsy and asthma. Cheapest quote I'd found was £250 covering his conditions and £59 without any of them. Many supposed special insurers just didn't want to know and some quotes were £600+.

Saw the post about https://www.aceholidayinsurance.com and gave them a ring. They say that all my husbands conditions are covered because he is not on a waiting list for any treatment (he's currently stable and just has a regular scan as a check up) that they will cover him for 2 weeks in America for £29. :j Well, I am going to sit down and read their policy from front to back cause they seem to good to be true! But they assure me that he will be covered for all conditions.

So, thank you very much MSE. I'd recommend that you don't bother ringing round anywhere else just try these guys. It would have saved me hours of trouble! :T

    Happy Holidays!

My mother who will be 84 when she travels (and with loads of existing medical conditions) has found Saga cheaper than Age Concern for her holiday cover this year. She did have a frank conversation with the underwriter before they would accept her.
  • one thing to be wary of with travel insurance is make sure of the excess you will have to pay I had a very reasonable quote from age concern but when i asked about the excess was reluctantly informed £5000.00 after picking the phone up off the floor needless to say i turned it down I am now with total insurance who for an annual policy to cover my wife and I for £163 with my medical conditions of diabetes 5x pass grafts four cardiac arrests but no problems for the past three years my wife and I are in our early 50's

I am 55 with a slight heart problem. Now I am a a little confused.

I am insured with Primary Travel Insurance.

I was medically screened and given reference number which I in turn gave over to Primary Travel.

I am covered for everything other than my heart problem this was very carefully explained to me at the time of the screenin! Just because you are screened and accepted you really all need to make sure whether your medical conditions are included or excluded.........you need to check it out. Naturally I would rather my minor heart condition be included so if your insurance companies really do cover pre-existing conditions then I need to change companies.

    Hi,
try Help the Aged, have been using them for two years for single trips to EU since I found them to be half the cost of SAGA.

am 70 with medical conditions, which they cover.
  • I am 55 with several conditions - none of which are life threatening and none of which have caused me any problems in the last 10 years and I take no medication for them. However, when I book insurance I have to mention all of them - including any incidents of back pain, and any recent outpatient visits.

I usually book my travel insurance with Direct Travel Insurance on line but have to call them because of my existing conditions everytime. I am off to Spain in April and this time have only bought their standard insurance as I feel that my conditions are not likely to cause me any problems and if I have my EIHC/E111 card with with me then surely I would get emergency treatment for free in any Spanish general hospital.

I would say, however, that the conditions I have are all covered by Direct Travel when I upgrade to their Premium Plus insurance. I just feel that as they are not life threatening that I don't need to get cover for them. Should I always get the Premium Plus just to be on the safe side or get the cheaper option and rely on the EIHC/E111 card?

I do find Direct Travel are very reasonable though and would recommend them.
  • Hello Crystal64
Getting cover for over 31 days can be difficult. Try
https://www.bmcinsurance.co.uk who will cover for up to 90 days
