I am trying to get travel insurance for my mother. She is going to Canada for <2 weeks. She has high blood pressure controlled on 1 tablet and a cholesterol-lowering tablet (although she doesn't have high cholesterol). Does that count as a pre-existing condition?0

Yes BIgV you will need to declare it but I don't think it will be a problem although you don't say how old your Mum is. We had a fair quote from Colombus 0800 083 9503 it was an annual policy we are 64 and 63 with a few problems between us including high blood pressure controlled by one tablet.
Might be worth a try since it's a freephone number.0 -

Don't buy worthless products.
Read the small print. Be especially careful of the pre existing condition clause.
We booked the Maldives through a travel agent with a tour operator last March, when my wifes father, who has Alzeimers, was perfectly stable in a residential home. He deteriorated suddenly and badly 2 weeks ago and is now in hospital with nature taking it's course. My insurance (bought through money supermarket in November before I paid the balance) is worthless. I had to ask for the terms and conditions, which I received in February, long after I paid for the policy and the final holiday installment; when I received them I can see that no pre-existing conditions for close relatives are covered.
The tour operator is not at all sympathetic, not allowing a 2 to 3 week postponement and claiming 90% cancellation despite the resort being over booked and the airline offering to change our tickets for a nominal sum. (Emirates were absolutely super over the issue and could not do enough to help)
So basically I saved £50 odd on my insurance and lost £3250 on a holiday. I think the site rules preclude me from naming and shaming the tour operator or the travel agent. Suffice it to say, don't make my mistake...READ THE SMALL PRINT... and think of all the aged relatives with current non life threatening conditions you may want to be there for. Get their conditions named in the policy.0 -
AA sister company "1Stop" does a brilliant price for a single family trip to USA including asthma cover....£61
Struggled to find a quote anywhere else for under £150, AA was £170 then the operator asked if I'd like the sister company quote which is the same level of cover with a lower excess!!
this is their website although I think you need to call them for existing medical condition cover: https://www.1stoptravelinsurance.co.uk/0 -
has anyone come across any companies that will provide cover at a reasonable cost for someone who has a history of a leg ulcer? Mum paid £70 last year and it was a lot but she does want to be covered as she is more at risk of dvt0

I have 2 travel ins policies at the moment - one with my husbands employers ( annual, worldwide ) & free one with All & Leic account ( annual, Europe ) Unfortunately his work policy will not cover him now he has been diagnosed with high cholesterol & is a smoker. I have a loading on this policy for Atrial Fibrillation. The A&L one will cost £99 to update to worldwide for us both not inc. any loading for me. We are off to fiji in Sep via LAX so am trying to get single policy quote for DH. Best one from Floyd direct is £55 for 24 days, is this a good price? It's years since I paid for travel ins.0
