People seem to forget that their child probably did the same !!
What always annoyed me was the women who thought they would try and tell you what was wrong with your screaming child !! Like 'oh the poor wee thing must be hungry' yeah and I'm starving her for the hell of it, I like to hear her scream !!!
The two best things I have done with my life

We're Peter Rabbit fans here and I decorated Charlottes room with a Peter Rabbit theme. The cot, curtains and mobile were bought when I was expecting Joshua, and there's a cot quilt that we used as a mat too! Here's the pics from when it was first done:

I don't mind people touching babies as long as they are clean and don't look minging! If you hate people touching babies, you'd hate Turkey. The Turks are baby crackers and are all over babies kissing and hugging them. Charlotte got loads of attention and often got passed round in shops and bars for cuddle with everyone. I thought it was lovely, especially when men fussed over her.

I didn't like it when my boys played up in public and I'd sort of shrink away thinking everyone was thinking I was a really crap Mam. I've grown a thick skin since then and now I don't care what anyone else thinks. As long as I'm doing what I can to manage the tantrum as best as I can, it's really nobody elses business. Think things like that come with practice though.

She was playing up on the plane as she decided she didn't want to be strapped in even though the seat belt lights were on for take off, so she had no choice. A man asked abruptly "can't you shut that child up?", so I said back "no I'm nipping her on purpose because I love it when she screams." He went dead red and embarrassed and never commented again :o:D
Here I go again on my own....

Im glad your managing to sort it out 3. I dont think its a splitable offence either, more selfish and stupid.

I think tantrums are definitely to be ignored wether your at home or in public. I have on many occasions calmly walked out of cinemas, supermarkets, theme parks, and other places and taken children straight home when they threw a wobbler for not geting what they want. I do find screaming children in public stressful but I do my best not to show it. No one has ever commented on it to me, but if they did they would get an earfull.

Im feeling a bit deflated this morning, im struggling with the breastfeeding. I really dont want to stop and im doing my best to hang in there, but my nipples are sore sore sore sore sore!!! During every feed, I promise myself im going out to buy a big tin of formula, then decide to try again.

Im using lasinol and expressing, but the positioning is a nightmare because my nipples are getting so wet from the oversupply, even with the expressing, she keeps falling off, they keep getting soggy in seconds no matter how often I dry them. And now they are so sore I could cry.

There were 2 small patches of white on the corner of her lips yesterday which didnt wipe off, so I thought maybe its thrush, but theres no more white and those patches are gone, I just thought maybe that would explain the pain, as its getting worse.
  • Yes he's just below the 91st.
He's way above average in length, he was on the 91st for that at his 8 week check, I sat him side by side with my 19 month old neice a couple of weeks back and they are so similar in size it's funny, they are even in the same nappy size! :rotfl:

Everyone tells me Benjamin is big so I bet you get loads of 'what a whopper' comments!!
Glad to hear that you are doing okay AM :D

well second night of LO sleeping through the night - yippeeee. She was a dream girl yesterday. All that sleep did her the world of good, nap times weren't a fight and we had such fun. She rolled herself across the room for ages and is now sitting up for long periods of time. I generally had overwhelming bursts of love for her all day :D

we have baby class this lunchtime and then friends over for a 'playdate' (I hate that word!) two boys - she's flirting at a young age!!!

My little sister is coming to stay tomorrow for a couple of nights which will be lovely - I'm going to try and convince DH she's capable of loking after LO when she's asleep for the night and take MFD's advice and go to the pub!!!

Yay for Baby MacSmiler AGAIN :T
And Yay for going to the pub ;)

Shopping - I found changing supermarkets helped...Benjamin hates Tescos, I think it must be the lighting

    A few other tips:

Make sure baby is fed/winded/clean and generally happy.

Get the essentials in the trolley first :D

Remember you can stop for a cuddle...leave your trolley with customer serivces and go sit in the cafe for a while

Take several toys and bring them out one at a time

Using the baby seats does work because baby can see more

Rock the trolley and sing and dance like a mad thing to keep baby entertained :D

Go to a checkout with a young lad if possible - someone who won't want to spend 5 minutes cooing over the baby or saying 'hello, what are you crying for' to your distressed child  (he is crying because you are too dozy to hurry up )

    And finally,

remember that YOU CAN LEAVE. Leave the trolley, take the baby and b00ger off - not helpful when you have got to feed the family but since my husband reminded me of this I have calmed down a lot.

I had an awful experience in Tescos when Benjamin was 8 weeks (ish ) where a woman put some things on the belt behind my shopping and her husband made her move them all to another till because the baby was crying :o I was fighting back the tears.

It does sound thrush like - a few on here have struggled recently so should be able to help.

Someone (Krystal maybe?) said a while ago that after you get to a certain point, b/f gets easier! And it does - honest! :D
When Violet was a few weeks old I remember standing in the baby aisle in Asda staring at the formula:rotfl:one even fell into my trolley but I eventually put it back.
Now at nearly 24 weeks i'm glad I stuck with it - i'm finding it much easier. The unexpected leaking has gone (mostly), no more sore nips and we finally seem to be in some form of routine.
(I only managed 4 months with DS as I had to go back to work full time, and a couple of weeks with DD1 as it was agony!! - so i'm very proud of myself this time - however long it lasts.)

I thought Benjamin was a whopper - he's definately tall/long! He was as big, if not bigger than Violet and she's got quite a few weeks on him!

I've often left a half full trolley in the supermarket and boogered off home!! :rotfl:(I do wonder whos job it is to deal with the abandoned trolleys?)

Also, Joes quite happy in Asda or Tesco, but won't even go into Somerfield anymore! I too blame the lighting - and the fact that they have proper old style bells at the tills when the assistant needs something.

Definitely get checked, at least if you know its thrush then you can see the light at the end of the tunnel IYSWIM I always think if you know someting is only going to be painful for a short period you can put up with it easier (I hope I don't sound like a nutter there)

People comment that Chris is big for his age  he's tall-ish but definitely not big!! I think people just forget/don't know what is average for their age

:rotfl:good tip! I always avoid the SA's that are women of a certain age - they are definitely the worse offenders for cooing - doesn't help that Chris loves the attention:rolleyes:

I love the Beatrix Potter rooms. I'm planning on painting Alice's room light yellow as it's a colour which goes with lots and isn't something that would "need" to be changed for a teenager. She's absolutely mad about Winnie the Pooh (the other week she was even kissing an Eyore garden ornament in a shop) so I got some Winnie the Pooh pictures in Instore to go on the wall. (I did have grand ideas about painting a traditional style Winnie the Pooh on the wall myself but decided to be a bit more realistic about what I would actually get done.)

We just had friends round to play when we were little.

Do any of you get embarrassed when your out and about and the little one plays up?
Alice is usually better behaved if we are out - presumably because there are lots of interesting/different thinks to look at and take in compared to at home. It isn't as good as it sounds though because when she was a baby anytime she cried at church people made comments like, "Oh she can cry." which meant that if she ever cried I felt like it was really noticable and conspicuous whereas those who's babies were always crying never got comments.

Should I try one of those trolleys that have a built in baby seat? When can you use them from? Lexi is 13 weeks. I need to get a sling or something that would probably help - will order one today but I have to absolutely go shopping this afternoon or we will al starve! :rotfl:
I never used them (used a sling until she was big enough for the toddler ones) but I always assumed they were from birth. I imagine they probably say somewhere on them whatthe limits are as the toddler ones do.

I try to avoid young lads now. Just after we moved house I had to go shopping one evening with Alice. I was really tired and didn't get any help packing up the shopping. We happened to be near the toilets and when I was still packing (and this lad was sitting doing nothing waiting for me to finish packing), Alice started disappearing into the toilets shouting, "Wee!" I told her she'd have to wait until I paid but even then I didn't get any help. (If I hadn't been so tired, it would have occurred to me to just go off and leave the shopping to take her to the toilet as there was no queue but I reckon a lady would have started to help with the shopping instead of just sitting there.)

I second that it gets easier. Up to about one month I didn't think I could even manage four months but by the time I got to two months I felt like I could just keep going indefinitely.
