I don;t like when people change the words - our baby sensory class have different words to pop goes the weezle and ring 0'roses and I just loudly sing the words I know/like best :D

We use the word piddle as well. DH thinks I'm insane and doesn't understand when I say that it's not the done thing to talk about wees and poos, and that bum was a bad word when I was a child:rotfl:we referred to it as our behind or bottom if it needed further eplanation:o

It's not just that I prefer the old words...I actually object to the new ones! I will have a quiet word with the lady next week (get there a bit early maybe)...if I am brave enough :o

I could say bum when I was growing up...but I would say pants rather than knickers :o

Have cancelled my web-conference for tonight. I still feel like pap :o

Hi skinty, I can give some advice on getting rid of the Thrush as I've been battling with it as well and seem to finally got rid of it, though I now have Mastitis but thats a different story.

I got rid of it in a few days but it returned so I researched the internet to find the best way of getting rid of it. I also got some really good advice on here.

If expressing dump any teats as they can cause reinfection.
Wash any towels, nursing bras and nursing tops in hot washes.
Wash boobs with warm soapy water before and after feeds.
Replace breastpads immediately as soon as any milk soaks in, same with nursing bras.

I was using canestan cream and applied after every feed. I ended up having to stop BF eventually and only expressed because the pain was so bad, im not sure if this helped maybe get it under control, but with Cliodhna it cleared up pretty quickly using the nistaten.

I was told that Alexandra's Thrush was actually quite bad (and was certainly causing us loads of feeding problems!) as was mine... but we saw significant improvement in the first week - I'd even say in the first couple of days! So I'm not sure why it's not improving for Lilia - have you asked your HV? If you call them and ask them to come out they can check for you and see if there is something the GP can prescribe as an alternative... It's a fungus so I don't know if it could have gotten resistant? Don't know enough about fungi... :)

Well, it kind of did get better at first, and it's not actually quite as bad as it was, but it seemed to rally and come back a bit, and Lilia's thrush spots in her mouth haven't gone at all as far as we can tell.

The HV is coming on Friday so I could ask then. I think thrush can get resistant, yes, so maybe we need to try something else.

Skinty - If Lilia doesnt like being on her back, would you be happy for her to sleep on her side. Leila slept on her side pretty much from the start and doesnt like being on her back because when she startles it wakes her up. Now she sleeps on her tummy and has been doing since she rolled on to it from her side at about 5 weeks. She sleeps so peacefully like this.

The other thing I have found useful in bed is a wedge like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bed-Wedge-Back-Pain-Pregnancy-Comfort-Leg-Support-NEW_W0QQitemZ350153711425QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Health_Beauty_Mobility_Disability_Medical_ET?hash=item5186c99f41&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I already had it to help with my hubby's [STRIKE]snoring[/STRIKE] reflux problem but have now stolen it for feeding. Its easier if i'm propped up and Leila lies across my tummy. I have just started feeding lieing down as Leila has been sharing the bed for a few days as she has the snuffles.

IT DOES GET EASIER - I promise (and I am a solicitor so I would never twist the truth!!:A)

Leila is 7 weeks today and she only ever really cries when she is hungry (or wants her mummy:o). One smile from her makes the lack of sleep, the pooey nappys, the late nights and early mornings and the lack of 'me' time etc all worthwhile. xx

We aren;t allowed to put her on her front, but we do put her on her side. She likes that but does sometimes then wriggle so she's on her front and I have to adjust her.

I know eating lots of yoghurt helps with vaginal thrush. I've not sure if it works on breast thrush, but it might be worth a try if you like yoghurt. Also eating less of foods with sugar and yeast in can help too.

Are you picking her up the second she makes a noise? Don't worry if you are - it's a common new parenty thing and we all did it! I know it's really hard, but try ignoring her for a few minutes and she might learn to go off herself. Obviously if she starts really crying and is distressed you need to pick her up and deal with her. It'll take time, but you'll will learn the difference between a need something cry and a frustration cry, so you'll know when she needs picking up and when she can be left to settle herself. Even after three it still feels hard leaving them to settle themselves though :o

We don;t pick her up straight away. I tend to stand over her once she starts making a lot of noise, but so far once she opens her eyes then that's it - and it's a race against time to get her nappy changed before she starts really yelling for food!

I don;t think I'm an especially nervous parent - we do leave her to try and settle a bit but obviously not too long as she is so little. I know her food cry, and her upset/wind/poo cry, but not any of the others yet, if there even are any.

Sami - Lilia had a gummy eye from birth and the MW told us to boil 1 litre of water with 1 teaspoon of salt, then add cotton wool balls, boil them for a minute, then pour the whole lot hot into a container, so everything was sterile. We then wiped her eye with it as and when, and within a few days it was all cleared up. Not as MSE as breast milk but still quite good, and also handy for bottom wiping and cleaning thrush cream off nipples as well!

Lilia is currently asleep and has been since about 5pm, after a 4pm feed lasting 50 minutes, so I'm hoping she will go for another four-hourly feed and wake around 7pm.

    Well, I can dream! :p

  • Re songs with different words, DH is appauled that we sing "what shall we do with the grumpy pirate" at the library... me and Izzy sometimes sing "what shall we do with the grumpy baby" instead.

The one that annoyed me was when they made us sing to Steps (or possibly s club 7... I don't know/care which really). It didn't annoy me because I don't like the song (well it did, but I can cope with that... we can't all like the same thing), but because we don't go there to sing along to pop music - we do that with the radio/cds all the time. We go along to sing nursery rhymes and do the actions!

This afternoons new toy is a bottle of champagne. Izzy kept trying to take it off the wine rack, and I thought it was safer to take the bottle down for her, seeing as she is refusing to leave it alone! Will be moving the rack to a safer location tomorrow when I can get a helper to assist with moving a bit more of the old furniture!

Oh, and she was fascinated by her aunties feet yesterday, as she was wearing blue nail varnish... so when/if I get round to it I'm going to see how many colours I can dig out and do multi coloured toe nails :)

Go on, spill the beans, what was it? We used to say straign... I think I prefer poo... it sounds far less hard work!
