I always feel guilty if I consider one of the boys doing something and not the other:o
But you have to recognise that they are different, and different ages. It's better to do different things and leave the older things for them to look forward to. Plus it's nice having a younger one as the 'big boy' of the family too.

Plus there will always be age limits and height limits, and the younger ones might as well learn to deal with it now. Sorry, that's the wicked mum talking ...

DS2 has always followed very close behind DS1 developmentally, but only because I haven't been able to stop him! Once DS2 could read, he had the attitude that anything DS1 could read, he could read too. Then they both started getting hairy bits at roughly the same time! There's 2.5 years between them!

But I did try to keep some things 'special' for DS1, and then again for DS2 - DS3 had to wait until he was old enough.

Sorry, rambling, probably need to feed the crabby ...

Mel, there is 17 months between me and my younger sister. There were very few things I was allowed to do and my sister wasn't and it caused a lot of resentment from me and smugness from her - call it immature but we were about 8 at the time! (PGL was a school organised thing for all Y6s so she got her turn the following year).

We don't intend to have babies close together, but we always said that if that's the way things happened we would always treat them differently and have a clear distinction between them and what they were allowed to do. You can always treat your younger one to something else at the same time, just not the same thing iyswim else it loses the "special-ness" for the older one :)

Thank You elle - That is such an insightful post, and definitely something for me to consider when making decisions regarding them...I suppose it is because as I was growing up, my older brother was allowed to do everything and I was allowed to do nothing....(there was a 5yr gap), but even now he is still the favourite. ('Golden underpants' we refer to him as!!) I think I am just trying too hard to make sure ds2 doesn't think there is any favouritism going on.

    Thank You again:)

our new house is quite cottagey so has old fashioned doors that dont fit doorway bouncers which is a big pile of poop cos seth loved his. in the old argos catalogue they did one on a frame, but in the new one its been replaced by a swing, how annoying! does anyone know where i can get one on a frame?

Em, when I was little my mum or dad? got a big hook from a diy store and put it in the ceiling thy then hung my bouncer from that....probably had to get an extra length of chain but they said it was far better than it being in the doorway anyway, as I wasn't in the way and no worries abou tthe door shutting on me:)

BTW, I have just been to the HMRC site and your offspring can earn up to £6475 each this tax year before they need to pay any income tax on it. Although that would include any interest earned on their savings, which normally would be paid gross because you'll have filled in a form to say their income is below the personal tax allowance.

    Thanks Savvy....
I am often torn between allowing the older one to 'be older' and trying to make sure the younger one doesn't feel left out or less loved/valued etc...
None of this applies to ds3 as he is 6yrs younger than ds2 so probably have little idea of anything that the two older ones do anyway:)
