Well apparently the minimum charge isn't changing in the newer tariffs (June 09 and later).

I've spoke to about 8 different advisors yesterday and after speaking with the 4th, they noted on the system not to offer me a cancellation. Then each subsequent time I called up they just kept reitterating the fact that I won't be affected and told me basically to go away.

    Edit

btw. In your case, even if the t&c changed, they would just cancel your contract as it's within 14 days and you would have to return the phone

Yes i did realise this, and i won't be attempting to cancel myself until the 14 days are up.
Thanks for the help, but i still cant understand how they can refuse ANYONE to cancel when their online terms STILL state the min. charges are 5p.
Fine if they stay at 5p, but i cant see Orange changing the min. charge only for old customers, that would be ridiculous!!!

Im sure legally you have the right to cancel, and when my 14 days are up i'll be fighting them all the way!!

I received the text a few days ago. I'm on Dolphin 35 with £10 discount, £25 per month 600 mins and unlimited texts. I also have my home unlimited broadband through them for an extra £5 a month.

I'm actually very happy with Orange, only problems I have are with my crappy C902 SE phone. I'm due to upgrade early Oct 09.

Has anyone cancelled that has Orange BB? Did they mention this would increase with cancelling? I was thinking of calling and see if I can blag another discount as tbh I couldn't be hassled with changing BB providers atm.

Anyone got offered discount for staying with them?

    TIA

i would call and check to be honest. if ur account hasnt changed then u it will not terminate when u think it would.

as soon as i cancelled mine it changed to the new end date

    OK thanks very much.

Just what I thought would happen. I called up and they said they had no record of me cancelling. Saying if I wanted to cancel I would have to pay the fee. I quoted the name and extension number of the guy I spoke to on Saturday and then they agreed to cancel (again) without a fee. This time though I requested my PAC code, it's going to come in the post and I will transfer my number to another network PAYG sim asap I think. Still hoping I won't get a huge bill at the end. Although I'm worried that again they will say "we have no record of you cancelling".
  • Hi everyone,

    Just joined up....copied my post from HUKD hope it helps some;

Well I was successful in canceling my Orange contract (started March 2009) yesterday morning and was told by a disconnections team member that simply use the PAC code within 30days to cancel and a credit would be issued to cover the costs - they were aware of me not receiving the text, I said that it was clear that I was eligible and wasn't happy.

So last night I just wanted to check all was well and that I got my details right so I called them again to check. They said it was fine and then did a massive U turn saying that I had obviously lied that I had received the text blah blah blah....I explained politely yet firmly (keeping my cool ) that I was aware of this and so was the advisor who I spoke to earlier (who also claimed I was due to receive the text on 1st August anyway).

I then asked to speak to manager/supervisor who has been one of the rudest person I have ever spoken to at a call centre. She explained that they would try and cancel the PAC code that was issued earlier and it may have be sent out already and if it had been that if I went ahead and used it she would make a note on the account for the credit not to be applied - I argued the case against this and she said I wasn't eligible and until I have received the text. Surely the text is only a notification of the changes (also it is now very apparent that Orange are clearly lying to their customers - can they check or not if we have received a text? and can they possible know the time it will be sent out). Abruptly when i started quoting 4.3 to the manager she put the phone down!

Phoned back and spoke to Customer Services who was very apologetic who told me the notes on the account had been changed/deleted or something and that it was unacceptable customer service from a manager! Finally got a PAC code reissued with confirmation of account credit when used.

Sorry for the rant and long post - hope it helps others though! Try and get the advisors name, department and extension number and write them down - if you can yourself try and record the call!

Just double checked how mine is going through as not received anything yet either. Turns out it wasn't processed. Now they can check who has and hasn't received it and won't let you cancel till you have received it. They are also able to check when you should receive it. Very annoyed about this as they agreed and gone back on what they said, I have now canceled 2 out of 3 contract with her over the phone and the last one will be canceled when it receives its text on 1st aug. I had good retentions discounts but I'd rather pay over the odds elsewhere as I have had nothing but problems.

  • Is it legal to record calls with CS? Can you do it if you mention at the very start of the call that you are recording?

In addition, why should we have to wait for texts to cancel? So long as you can receive verbal confirmation of the price changes you can then reiterate term 4.3 no?

if we dont/haven't received a text... is'nt this going against their rules of informing us of contract changes?? if they say "we haven't sent you a text" can we say... "so.. you're changing my contract without telling me?...thats against the rules"!!;)
  • Hi

I'm on one of the dolphin tariffs and pay £30 a month (24 month contract). I get something like 600 minutes and unlimited free texts. Anyway, I signed up to the contract on May 23rd 2009. My first bill was taken on 5th June. Will this mean I'm eligible to cancel?

    Thanks

I think it is fine to ask them if it is ok for you to record the call - their answer should be a Yes - surely its both of the two parties best interests.

Regarding the text message - I also believe that if we aware of the change of terms via any source and get a verbal confirmation of this then we are eligible . The text is simply a way of them notifying their customers (one customer service advisor said it acted as a get out of jail free card ).
