Early days but total shock. Have crohn's and previous abdominal surgery meant it was not supposed to happen again. Anyone any experience of PND? Had it 1st time

    Congratulations and Welcome,

Just on my way out,but wanted to say Hi.

Fortunately I've not suffered with PND in my previous pregnancies, but when I saw my midwife she did say that they keep an extra close eye on people who have had depression previously -so hopefully anybody suffering before will be well looked after.

I had PND after number 2 (but not after number 1) and as a consequence am being monitored very closely during this pregnancy, and may be put onto anti depressants as a preventative measure if things look shakey after the birth (though am trying to resist this as I want to breastfeed the baby).

I also have bowel problems (ulcerative colitis not Crohns) but haven't had a flare up since I've been pregnant. My first ever bout though was immediately after the birth of number 2, and a link between the two conditions has been vaguely postulated. From what I have read, certainly about U/C, if you are in remission when you conceive though it is more likely to stay that way during the pregnancy though you are at increased risk of a bad attack post birth. I'm not on any meds for mine at the moment as I've been in remission for a couple of years now. I know that some of the meds prescribed aren't suitable in pregnancy though, so if you haven't already maybe you should check it out with your specialist?

I'm currently feeling a little apprehensive as I ended up on the labour ward last night with suspected pre-term labour at 35 weeks. They decided in the end I was dehydrated and sent me home with instructions for bed rest until I see my consultant tomorrow (which I must confess I've ignored :o as I'm too stressed to lie in bed and think of nothing else, but I did get OH to take the kids out for the day so I didn't have to do anything too strenuous). Keep fingers crossed for me that I last another couple of weeks at least until baby is term and my section is booked.

Hi. Hope everything goes well with the rest of your pregnancy. Were you able to ask for an elective caesarian due to your bowel condition? I had an emergency c-section last time due to a failed induction + surgery but would like another section.

I have the full deck of reasons I think! Baby no 1 was a section due to footling breech. Baby no 2 was a very difficult VBAC which resulted in her having learning difficulties and me losing a lot of blood. The risk of that happening again is higher than average, and I'm too stressed to risk it. Added to all this, this baby is also breech at 35 weeks and very big for dates (estimated weight at 33 weeks was 6.5lb!) Funnily enough the only thing which hasn't been thrown into the mix is the u/c!
  • Hi Rosie - Congrats and Welcome! Sorry can't help re the PND as this is my 1st baby, but glad that Nicki can offer some insight.

Nicki - Wow you had us nervous there being admitted! Hope you managed to get some rest and that all is OK.

I'm just popping in really as have to go to the other office in a mo' and probably can't access from there. Am feeling a bit apprehensive about the interview tomorrow, not relly sure how to 'play it' but going to see my boss later and hope to get some tips, as he knows the guy who will be interviewing (who is not the one who was due to originally, as I called his impartiality into question last week so it has been changed!!!!!!!!).

Hope everyone had a good Bank Hol W/E and all bumps are doing well - I must finish sorting out my clothes as I am struggling to find stuff in my warderobe which will fit over the bump npw (and all my new maternity tops are in the wash after the weekend!).

    Have a good one everyone,

  • Morning Ladies,

Nikki -Do as the DR says - get your feet up now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FE - good luck for your interview - I'll be keeping my fingers crossed

AFM I've been suffering badly with headaches - I'm just hoping that they go away soon.

Feeling really fat now - I'm not even at the halfway mark yet,so I'm going to feel like a right heffa by the time I reach 40 weeks !!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway off into town to a) visit the dentist b) to buy DS some trainers for PE.

Hope you are all well & enjoyed the bank holiday.

I was enormous for my dates up until about 24 weeks, then settled down and "grew into" the bump I already had. I'm now probably a bit on the small side for an almost full term lady (though of course I feel enormous still compared to non-pregnant state!). There's no way I could pass for anything other than heavily pregnant, but I look at other women in the street who are also pregnant, and a lot of them are quite a bit bigger than I think I am, and they can't all be having multiples!

Hi. Didn't mean to offend in any way. I'm hoping to have another section due to crohn's and 3 lots of previous bowel surgery/burst appendix/prem baby last time. I wondered how you broach the subject with the midwife or hospital. Hope everything goes well with the next few weeks :o
