Why is it when someone does'nt agree with a team member or Martin, you say they are rude and combative, and actually rather offensive.i don't think anyones been any of those things in this thread, just healthy debate where some people agree with some things and others don't.A lot of users won't speak up but when someone does have a different opinion, they get accused of abuse
I wasn't aware that Flickering Ember was a forum team member? I stand corrected if I'm wrong.
As far as I'm concerned, this is Martin's site, and he has to carry the can for any legal repercussions caused by posters here. Ergo, he has the right to set down whichever rules he wants. If people don't like it, they are free to stop posting, or even start up their own site, with rules they choose.
I believe that the rules are an important part of the reason for the success of the MSE forums. After all, we're only being asked to be reasonably polite, courteous, and treat other posters with respect, and consideration for their feelings. What is so difficult about controlling your temper, keeping a cool head, and showing consideration for others? The majority of posters are adults after all, and it's easy enough to close an internet window and find a friendlier forum. We even get two chances if we do lose our cool, and are only PPRd on the third occasion.
I'm also sure I've seen PPR'd posters re-instated, but can't think of examples. Maybe they appealed/apologised and were re-instated as a result, or maybe I'm mistaken.[FONT="][FONT="] Fighting the biggest battle of my life.Started 30th January 2018.

Thanks, Korkythekat, it's nice to have someone saying good things about the forums. I think while there can be problems, it's nice to point out the good things as well.
I think most people would agree that on net, what Martins done by founding MSE is a very good thing, that has made a very positive difference to thousands of lives.
I don't think we should forget that, even if we disagree on some issue or other.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

If you find my post rude, please report it to abuse.
You have no idea how many people have been put off posting in these forums lately, or who are keeping a distance. A fair few of them are in touch with me, and with some other MSErs on Facebook. Anything which improves the harmony and restores good feeling in these forums can only be welcomed and celebrated. Being perfectly frank with you, I find it rather rude you're demanding all this personal attention for a matter which won't change, at a time when the MSE team have enough on their plates and you keep demanding Martin posts while he has RSI. Please be a bit more considerate. There are a lot of other users on these forums and the greater good is more important at the moment. Maybe when you have a good friend from here reduced to tears at a time when their life is already testing their strength, all because of certain other users being spiteful, you'll understand.0 -
JayII, I've not been around here for as long as lot of others, and don't post a lot in the Arms/DT. I've never seen anyone PPRed, let alone reinstated, but if it has happened that someone's been let back on here, then fine. I have nothing else to say on it though as I probably shouldn't comment on something I know nothing about. I don't think that poster was suggesting I'm an MSE team member; MSE team members have MSE in their username and are highlighted in green; I'm neither.0

I haven't called anyone names and being articulate has nothing to do with it; English isn't even my first language so I'm in no position to judge its use. I criticise posts I find rude or unpleasant, and as I say, if you have any issues with my posts, report them, or with me, put me on ignore. If I genuinely caused you offence, then I do apologise, but I find it hard to see how I could have.0

Hi Flickering Ember, I'm aware that you're not a team member, I realised after I'd posted that I'd misread the post I was responding to. Sorry about that.
I've seen a few people PPR'd and whilst I may not have always liked the reason behind it, it has always appeared fair. I also have no issues with posters being reinstated.
R.e. your latest post. In my opinion, I haven't seen you being rude or impolite to anyone.[FONT="][FONT="] Fighting the biggest battle of my life.Started 30th January 2018.

I definitely think the Compers Inn should be closed and people should go and post in the Arms - that way the nasty cliquey behaviour would be away from the competitions board and into a more suitable area.0

Ittakestwo.
With regards to consistency, we have a million different scenarios, and each are done on a case by case basis. We try and be fair, we try to be consistent,we have no basis of discrimination (you are just user names after all), and we do our best.
Though as it says at the start of this thread, we are now adopting a more severe PPR strategy than before, so obviously actions since then wont necessarily be consistent with the past.
Of course though we have a number of different members of the forum team, as it is impossible for just one to act, and at the edges some take slightly different approaches. You chose the judiciary example which is a good one, sadly you can't expect the same case to always get the same decision by two different judges, but we do our best to co-ordinate, and I think they do on the whole a great job.
Though do remember this is a private forum, I am within my rights to choose willy-nilly who i allow and dont allow to post. We can be as inconsistent, illogical and downright bizarre in who we choose to post, and how we choose to delete posts as we like. Though of course we try not to - but it is important you are aware that your complaint is simply a question of our choice of policy not one of any fundamental 'right'.
The ultimate choice is for every user. If you dont like the rules, then don't come to the forum let me make it clear. It isn't compulsory. That's your right and you can choose to exercise it.
So as this entire thread was about changes, to try and improve things - including consistency e.g. the cards. Perhaps you would care to make constuctive suggestions as to how you would like things to change - practical ones though - sadly "be more consistent" doesnt' really help - you've made that point already.
Kind regards

I wish people would stop antagonising Martin. I think he has exercised huge tolerance already in calmly replying to these accusations of unfairness. If I was him I'd have blown a gasket by now.
Some time ago there was even the possibility of some of the boards being closed down due to attitudes and abuse. For goodness sake let's not risk his patience getting to that point again.
