This is a free forum, there is no right to post here. We are not going to start holding trials we are not judges, we make decisions to best protect the forum, its users, and the forum resources which are not infinite.
As such, an impartial, independent team, who do not post on the forums, have to make judgement calls.
Most of the time they do a very good job, sadly I have to accept that even IF in a very very small percentage of the time, the wrong decision has been made as to who is allowed to post, that is an acceptable consequence of having this forum - without it - I'd simply have to shut it down as we dont have the resources to individually review every post.
Do note, no one is ever banned from reading the information here, only from posting.
We are starting a new system of cards, which will hopefully mean, that good posters, will receive fair warning if they're breaking the rules and abusing the system - if they don't follow those their warnings - they will no longer be allowed to post.
I think you forgetting your response that this is a private site not a public site, that I am the person individually legally responsible for what's published on it.
This is a mammoth forum, but frankly posts like this make me want to tear my hair out more often than not. While small in proportion, in total we deal with ridiculous amounts of squabbling, petty rudeness, and nastiness that spoils what is a great collectively consumer resource. We have to deal with it - and we work hard to do it as well as we can.
So ultimately we have to have rules, and we have had people do decide those rules. And they are the forum team.
And I'm afraid if you don't like that and the way it works then, utilmately I would understand if you chose not to post here or use the site, but that is the only choice i can give you regarding the rules.
Kind Regards

Is there any flexibility over how long PPRs apply for?
Are they always/usually permanent? However hard up you are, never accept loans from your friends. Just gifts0 -

I think so, yes. But as Martin's said, PPR'ed users can still read everything on the forums; it's only Posting Priviledges Removed.
RE: Some of the posts from this last page...seem to defeat the object of the thread itself, being petty, and trying to ignite from what I can make of it. My personal feelings are that some people I've seen around these forums have been getting away with too much as it is, including people who I have reported myself, so for them to ever get as far as being PPR'ed, they really must have pushed it beyond the limits of acceptable behaviour. The forum staff have better things to do than go around banning people, and they don't do it lightly or for fun. I think that if you've been PPR'ed, then deep down you know you deserve it.
I'm sure they already do, but I would like to think that the forum staff do keep tabs on certain people who get continually reported though.0 -

Can you substantiate that claim? If someone's come back with an AE, just report them. I find the claim you make rather hard to believe, that's all.
UKTyler, I really think you need to rethink your last posts. You're coming accross as rude and combative, and actually rather offensive. It's a tough job looking after such massive forums, risking legal comeback and trying to keep literally hundreds of thousands of people happy (thinking of all those who read but have never registered as well as the rest of us). You seem to be biting the hand that feeds you; these forums are what you make them but you're doing yourself no favours posting in that tone. I remember some of your posts; I've liked some of them. It would be a shame to see you go. Maybe take a break; things look different with a bit of space. Works for me when things/people/forums wind me up.;)0 -
Your team has been using the 'personal abuse' label on edited posts as a standard term for people that breach the 'be nice to other moneysavers' policy. Hardly 'being nice' really is it?0

I think some of us are just worried that we could be PPR'd (banned with no right of appeal) for something phrased wrongly, misconstrued, or said in the heat of the moment. It places us in a precarious position that may make us scared of posting in future.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

I know of one poster who was PPR'd and was allowed back on the forum later on by Martin. So it does happen. Although it is pretty rare.
The MSE team is normally quite reasonable, really, and PPR is a rare decision from what I've seen. Frankly, in most cases you simply wouldn't want them back.
I don't think a single post would cause you to be PPR'd, you'd need to show quite a long history of being a troll. There's only been a few cases I am aware of, and in each case it was a good decision.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

But I don't understand how anyone would get that impression when the new card system has been clearly explained. And as Tomterm8 has said, unless it was absolutely staggeringly racist/venomous/libellous, I can't see how a single post could ever get anyone instantly PPRed under any circumstances. I think it would be something which is a long time coming, eg you garner lots of complaints from other users (which I am confident the team would actually look at posts complained about first anyway), or troll/spam incessantly, or cause legal trouble for either other users or the MSE team.0 -

There are better ways of speaking up. I would have said the same thing if you were speaking to another forumite. Personally speaking, I wouldn't speak to another person, either online or in person, the way you have been speaking on this thread.
I also feel you have an overblown sense of entitlement, both to post here at all, and to an answer which panders to you. I never said your post was abuse, either. Just rude.0 -
