    I've just had a thought:

posters should have a "This is pc gone mad" count.

One other thing which may have already been mentioned is that whilst I agree with the 'be nice to newbies' changes, our current system of rosettes and post counts and thanks counts under our usernames actually highlights who is a newbie and who isn't. Perhaps we need to abandon this system so that all we see under posters' names are their avatars?

This woudln't work on the comps board, as compers use the thanks click so they know they have already entered a particular comp.

Most competitions only allow you one entry, so if they accidently enter twice they would disqualify themselves...

I mentioned this on another thread, but maybe the compers could have a separate system to keep track of what they have entered?

Say a 25fm2at.gif button that once clicked would indicate on the board that you had entered that one?

The "thanks" button wasn't intended to be used to show what comps had been entered after all.

hi martin i mostly only post in the arms and dt and while im not too bothered about acruing loads of thanks for the sake of it. it is good to know how well my comments have been recieved or otherwise. could we keep the thanks on the actual post even if it is not added to your personal thanks count? btw without being a kissa$$ i love this site and i think the other posters are great i consider some folk who post here as friends. dt and the arms has been a boon to me and , i know, to many others so thankyou

If you read the Forum Etiquette (in the right margin), it says:

Pls be nice to all MoneySavers. There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps.

Martin wants us to be nice to all................not nasty.;)

ok, not sure what point you are making here ?? you think it would be nasty to disagree with someone ??

What i was saying was that it would be helpful if we could show disagreement as well as agreement, right now the only way to show how posts are received is by thanking,

have you seen the hotukdeals system ? makes total sense to me and its clear a member that can be trusted for their opinions due to the rating they have.

I think what Nile is saying is we need to be nice to everyone on MSE, REGARDLESS of whether or not they are being nasty. I really don't think anything untoward was meant by it, a prime example of reading a post out of context ;)

Ive not read anything out of context ;) in direct reference to my post suggesting a rating system they replied the above, again I have to ask how disagreeing with someone is being nasty ??

I think this is a great idea. I've stopped using a couple of the forums because newbies get attacked everytime they dare to ask a question and then other posters defend the attacker by saying that they are a regular poster and have made a wonderful contribution to the site. I don't care what contribution people have made to the board, I just think everyone should be treated with respect.

It isn't, its merely having a difference of opinion, whether it be right or wrong, in context, I for example disagree with you that Nile is suggesting disagreeing is nasty, without being nasty by doing it ;)

"Martin wants everyone to be nice - to everyone else" no matter who they are, or what they represent.
