In terms of AEs, it's a tricky one. The MSE team can check out peoples' IP addresses but there can often be legitimate reasons as to why more than one account uses the same IP; eg husband and wife, housemates, or people in the same office. So, I guess that unless someone trips themselves up, it won't be easy to prove they're an AE, if that makes sense. Anyone can set up a free, new Hotmail/Yahoo etc email address in minutes and re-register with these forums...0

..and my thoughts on the yellow card idea - got to be a good idea. I've swopped a lot of good ideas and made quite a few virtual friends on here - but theres certainly a couple of people who've had quite a "go" at me on here before now and its felt very personal. A couple of them are also regular posters - and I've been told by others not to worry myself about them, as they make a habit of having a go at people at intervals. Theres even a Board Guide who has a bit of a tendency to make snide comments at me at intervals
- the astonishment is not at them (I wont even divulge their sex...) for doing that at me - but that they see fit to make snide remarks to ANYONE at all. Its odd to see Board Guides being "human" and making subjective comments against someone - rather than the impartial objective mediator one assumes they are...
Anyways - back on theme...yellow cards...yep...bring 'em on...0 -
Well it`s taken a while but it looks like MSE`s "board of directors" have taken the decision to follow the PC brigade, who up and down the country, are thinking up nonsense to impose on the vast majority.
Yellow cards,red cards,don`t frighten the newbies,don`t call a spade a spade.
(To speak plainly - to describe something as it really is)
I think we`ve seen the best of these boards, sadly. :money:
That`s right Martin,turn everything on it`s head.

The plus side is that if it makes people with attitudes like yours go away, that can only be a good thing. :beer:Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

I think its aimed at bogof the person who posted just a few posts above.
I think that too, but I'm blowed if I can understand their point, as I was saying I hadn't noticed any nastiness.
I think some posters just skim read a thread and don't really bother to sort out who said what! :rolleyes:I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

ive been on the receiving end of some serious nut-jobs on this forum, one of which was so vile it was beyond belief - to make matters worse even after reporting they were not banned and if to be believed they had the full blessing of the forum mods, receiving a bunch of flowers in sympathy of the tough times they were going through !! (i didnt buy that but saw no action taken against them)
I dont see how post counts can help the newbie factor, even as a seasoned poster there are members who feel they own certain boards and will happily jump on anyone who disagrees with the clan, who then all come out of the woodwork to protect one of their own !
The proposed card system is a good idea, i would personally like to see a system similar to hotukdeals, where posts can be hated aswell as liked, and if that could be reflected in the members count so if someone is just chucking out rubbish deals or giving poor advice (or even disrupting a good debate with non-sense) they will loose 'thanks' and it will soon become clear those members who are not part of the community,

If that was brought in then people with personal vendettas will slowly kill somones score who has done nothing wrong
I have a few people who regularly join this site under a new username and set out to 'attack' me (Unbelievably sad ~ but thats the net for you). Theyve even gone on to attack me on other sites and done some very questionable things (oh how id LOVE to get their addresses )
So im afraid id have to disagree with that.
Surely if a post was SO bad that you felt it shouldnt be there then youd have a case for the mods to remove it?:idea:0 -
It might be good idea if yellow cards are issued to a user, to email the offending user quoting the post that warranted a yellow card, and letting them know the error of their ways.
I am guessing the sort of abuse Martin is aiming at, is personalised abuse, abuse aimed at a particular individual, i.e. name calling, false accusations, belittling users or plain nastiness. pretty much anything a user should know better for.
I am thinking if a user is reported for something, it will be reviewed first. Therefore reporting someone for nothing more than having a different point of view, is hardly going to be recognised as being abusive.
Maybe Martin should include yellow cards to malicious or false reporting, particularly if it is constant. I cant imagine MSE yellow carding a member just because another member tells them to. At the very least, the offending post will be viewed by the team.
There is a stark difference between "Staff at that Company are just plain stupid" and "Your just plain stupid" in any post. (just one example).
We all know what is abusive, nasty, unethical and bang out of order, whether or not it involves name calling, foul language or blatant abuse.
A little decorum, etiquette and support is all it really takes, which isnt too difficult for anyone.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Id say this is the PERFECT thread to tell us. Surely if its as bad as you claim then Martin should know about it (You dont have to use specific usernames or even a completely specific event. Just try to tell us what it is 'WITHOUT' telling us what it is if you know what I mean)
