If that was brought in then people with personal vendettas will slowly kill somones score who has done nothing wrong
I have a few people who regularly join this site under a new username and set out to 'attack' me (Unbelievably sad ~ but thats the net for you). Theyve even gone on to attack me on other sites and done some very questionable things (oh how id LOVE to get their addresses )
So im afraid id have to disagree with that.
Surely if a post was SO bad that you felt it shouldnt be there then youd have a case for the mods to remove it?
well in theory you would still be receiving positive votes so they should balance out the potential for damage, and if you feel you are being singled out then you should contact abuse,
however I wasnt thinking that a pos/neg system would ever stop what you are describing, if someone is following you site to site then thats a different ball game to a poster who steps over the line now and then or keeps producing bad advice,
combining the card sytem for abuse and the pos/neg system for acknowledgement may be the way to go,

If you read the Forum Etiquette (in the right margin), it says:
Pls be nice to all MoneySavers. There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps.

One thing which has occurred to me is that the thanks button isn't really a 'thank you for your useful post' button on many boards anyway. It's an 'I agree with you button', 'thanks for responding to my thread' button. I agree that there should be some form of expressing gratitude and/or agreement with a post but perhaps there should be two buttons? A thanks button and an 'I agree' button?4.30: conduct pigeon orchestra...0

Any chance of the boss answering this one?0 -
One other thing which may have already been mentioned is that whilst I agree with the 'be nice to newbies' changes, our current system of rosettes and post counts and thanks counts under our usernames actually highlights who is a newbie and who isn't. Perhaps we need to abandon this system so that all we see under posters' names are their avatars?4.30: conduct pigeon orchestra...0

That wouldnt work on the 'techie' thread
We'd get people posting absolute rubbish who have just joined and the OP wouldnt be able to differentiate between them and a genuine poster who knows what hes talking about (Thats NOT to say all new posters would post bad advice, its just an example)
So that to me would seriously confuse matters (And make the techie lads jobs a lot harder):idea:0 -

How about the straw man brigade? However hard up you are, never accept loans from your friends. Just gifts0 -
Maybe a simple "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" button would suffice, akin to the "thanks" where a user can only click it once, either one or the other, it would be much easier to introduce, less confusing to a newbie as well as make for a fairer and unbiased opinion on posts.
I imagine a post full of various different buttons, it would completely render any post as soup.
I think the confusion stems not from the post count or the thanks count, but in the way the stars are awarded.
To earn stars, one simply has to post more posts, however random, or worthy they are. Newbies are unsure of the system, it seems the star counts appear as badges of honour. They should be, but that is not the case.
Try not to strangle MSE forums with too many conditions, as it merely needs tweaking, not a complete overhaul, which could in effect backfire and lead to its own downfall.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
