Orlando/Disneyworld Thread (Part 3)

Be careful with the pin swapping - the Disney CMs are only allowed to trade with the "official" Disney pins. This means that ones you buy in the parks are fine (obviously) and also the ones in the Disney outlet stores (as they are the ones that used to be in the park "last season").
You can buy from eBay but check they are the "proper" Disney ones if you intend to trade with the CMs. There are many many sold on eBay that are the official Disney ones, so fine for this purpose. It's also perfectly OK to buy the non official ones from eBay, just know that you won't be able to trade those ones.
My DDs have loads of pins and it is good fun - but a VERY expensive - pastime. The pins in the parks range from $6 up to $12 and beyond, and it's easy to fall in the trap of buying a new pin frequently as it's "only" $8 or $10 or whatever. When you get home and add up what you spent in total it can be mind boggling :eek:0 -

So you can always buy a few cheap ones to exchange. God fun for the children too. May do it myself. Take up no space in the suitcase when you take them home.
You are right that they do have to trade if asked, though there may be certain pins on their lanyard marked as "not for trading". However they are not allowed to trade for a non official Disney pin, so it's best to be aware of that.0 -
Thanks atro1
Can anyone tell me if it was here I saw information about buying a stick (or something) for photos at the theme parks to be downloaded on - so you have a set price to pay for the stick...
I could be talking at cross purposes here, and have got my story completely mixed up!!

First Disney park you are at for a photo opportunity you'll be given a credit card size card which you then give to subsequent photographers which links all your photos together. They can be viewed via your card at all the parks and photos printed at the time or you can view them online and order photos on your return. You can buy a CD with all the photos on, maybe its done on a memory stick nowadays, not sure.
None are cheap of course but some are worth printing at the time. In the Magic Kingdom the photographers will get the wee one to hold out her hands and they will superimpose Tinker-belle into her hands, at Animal Kingdom they use the baby lion whose name escapes me. In the past at Magic Kingdom we have stopped at each photographer on Main Street leading up to the castle and you get a different view in each shot
Probably the busiest park with queues for the main characters like Mickey and Minnie is Magic Kingdom so it best to catch them at Epcot or Animal Kingdom both have an area where you just move round the characters. There is always a cast member with the characters and they are always happy to take a photo using your own camera too.
At Epcot in the shop at the UK pavilion you'll find Pooh, Tigger, Eyore and Piglet in an area towards the back of the shop, Mary Poppins can also be found there, great for the littlies and Tigger is fun for all ages.
Oh and for yourself you can look out for a very realistic Captain Jack at Magic Kingdom
ETA, Simba is the baby lion's name0 -
Just bought BOGOF Disney T shirts in Tesco today, £6 each, so two for £6.
DH was taking the mickey (pardon the pun) saying why not get them over there? My answer - now way I'll get official Disney tees over there for £3 a pop. There are so many Disney items available no-one is going to know they came from Mr. Ts. I'd rather keep the money for something else (not pins, not falling into that trap, DD has talked about it, thanks for the heads up on prices:eek:)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Is it sad that the Tinkerbelle thing made me get teary eyed?
ETA - does it just have to be the small ones that have this done? Can I have it? I quite fancy bashing all the kids out of the way so I can have Tink superimposed on my hand.Edinburghlass wrote: »Oh and for yourself you can look out for a very realistic Captain Jack at Magic Kingdom
Oh really? I shall look and have my own camera on hand... you know... you for the child.
There was something else I was going to ask you all... but my brain has stopped working completely, I shall be back with more questions when I've thunk.
Ahhhh!!! Remembered one... will it be busy from 10th January? Do you think? Thats when we're going.
Plus where is the best place to get dollaridge from, and should I just take cash and not bother with travellers cheques?
What will the weather be like and can you think of anywhere to go not associated with a theme park for a 3.. no sorry 4 year old?
Fanks!
I like this thread. I may set aside some time and read it all - which will probably help me and stop you lot from being asked questions!I saw two shooting stars last nightI wished on them but they were only satellitesIs it wrong to wish on space hardwareI wish, I wish, I wish you'd care0 -

You can absolutely have it done
The time of year you are going is THE quietest time of year :T so low queues.0 -
I've thought of another question...
Has anyone ever had - or know anyone who has had their teeth whitened in any of the malls on I-Drive?
I really fancy coming back with bright white teeth - but don't want them to fall out - if you get my meaning. I've got to my age with no fillings, I don't want to start now or have something that's going to make them uber sensitive.
Also... in keeping with money saving is it cheaper to have it done out there than over here? It's about £200 - £250 over here.

Please, please, please (and a few more pleases for good measure - its important) read the article and very many associated follow ups below the article (from both sides of the argument) before you even consider it. And when you have read, please think about walking away...

Edited to add: DH has bought the less strong Crest whitening strips when we've been to the States (cheapest we found were at Costco). Both he and his sister tried them and both got good results, however she had to stop using them very early on due to extreme sensitivity. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Every time I hear about teeth whitening I think of that episode of 'Friends' where Ross bleaches his teeth and they end up glowing in the dark!:rotfl:
