Does it make much difference if i settle the loans earlier then the 5 year term for example?

I don't think it will make much difference if you settle earlier, because they will also include all your ppi in with the settlement figure, so this way you will receive the full amount back plus the PPI, it does normally work out more than what you actually paid in.;)
Where on an active loan they have different ways of dealing with this, for example they may just refund towards the balance of the loan then refund the remainder, there are many ways.

With all mine so far they have been reclaimed on all settled loans.;)

    Don't worry Kev.;)

I remember when I first started reclaiming, I used to worry, but there is absolutely nothing to worry about.
Your only reclaiming what is rightfully yours, you have been out of pocket due to this and it's not as if your complaining on anyone personally, so don't worry.:D;)

    Letter in post, recorded delivery.

Do A&L automatically give you back any PPI taken out between Jan 05 and Dec 07 as they have been fined so much?

You do have a strong chance here Kev and even if they do try to fob you off this is normally standard, in a hope that you will not take it any further, but remember you must keep on at them, they will soon see it your way.;)
Hopefully though, they will agree to refund you at first instance.

Only to say as well, do not accept any low offers from them, as they tend to try this on as well, most of them do.
You want every penny you have paid plus the interest etc.;)

Let us know when you hear and we can take it from there for you. x

All 3 letters have now been sent off, sent them to the PPI teams as well as the customer compliants teams, so they it twice now. All sent recorded delivery, cost me a fiver a letter for all 6 letters lol All letters were received on Friday, so just a waiting game now.

Fingers crossed I can claim my money back from the first letter without having to involve the FOS
