Had my last accupuncture today.
I've been having it every week or two since April. There are mixed views on whether it helps fertility. I have had a contribution from my health plan which has now ended (although I was going to end it in a few weeks anyway).
It's a relaxing half hour - but possibly just because it makes you rest.
So no harm from it, but hasn't given me the result I wanted!0 -
I wanted to just post on the thread as I was a regular contributor until about 18 months ago.
Both OH and I had fertility problems and, despite IVF, we didn't conceive.
I had side-effects from the IVF (which now still affect my TOTM ) and ended up losing the embryo quite sooner after conceiving. OH and I found the whole thing so horrendous, we decided not to repeat the experience.
My reason for posting is that, we decided to adopt siblings aged 3 and 4 and they are a joy! I know that adoption isn't for everyone and respect that too, but I also wanted to say that, even in your blackest hours, that there is hope and that you can move on from infertility. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Hi,
I am new here, I have been TTC for 2 years.
I have PCOS (with irregular periods), I have tried to go to the GP numerous times but I have been told that I have to be TTC 2 years. Meanwhile I have been abroad privately and the doctor there gave me Metformin and a progesterone (to have regular periods). He told me after 6 months to come back and he will start me on Clomid (6 months will be this months, so I haven't strated Clomid yet).
After many trips to the GP here (I had ultrasounds again as the old ones "expired"), my husband had to have 2 sperm tests (the lab made a mistake and did not test in the required time) ... so loads of lost time (months) ... finally they sent me to the fertility clinic next month.
Should I tell the doctor here about the treatment from abroad ? As far as I know they will give me Clomid first (so it's the same anyway) ?
I am so annoyed at all this lost time (as my period is normally 3-4 months I probably have no ovulation or 1-2 a year so all this years were waisted ... but that's it, hopefully I will finally get some treament now and something will happen.
Now because of the progesterone treatment I had regular periods in the last 6 months, but either I had no ovulation or the ovulation test do not work for me.0 -
Personally I would tell the doctor what you have tried.
Good luck & hope you get some positive treatment.
Where have you been for treatment? Did you go abroad because it was cheaper than UK?0 -
Hi Mess0804
I initially thought you should probably discuss it with the Dr, but then i remember being told that i wouldnt be eligible for NHS treatment if i'd paid for private treatment first, so i guess it depends on whether this is applicable to you or not. i wouldnt want you to inform them then not be entitled to NHS treatment.
Good luck with whatever happens.

If you aren't still taking the metformin (or anything else) I might hedge my bets in your shoes. In other words describe your symptoms and wait to see what they suggest. If they suggest metformin then disclose you've already tried that without success, but if they go straight to clomid, just keep quiet, then you don't have to worry about them applying some rule about not mixing private and NHS treatment. Good luck. Hope you get some answers.0

I have yet another metformin question please ladies. For those of you taking it, how long did it take before you noticed some effect on the length of your cycles?
I've been taking it about 6/7 weeks, and am currently on CD28. Got another scan at lunchtime as FS thinks I will have ov'd by now but I'm just not convinced that I have yet.
The last few months I've ov'd on CD20, CD26 and CD22 (with no medication). I'm getting worried now that met & clomid have actually made things worse!0
