Juicygirl, welcome again, and good luck with the forthcoming ICSI, I hope that it works for you XX

I know what you mean about people not getting it, unless they have experience of it they havent got the faintest idea. We are lucky enough to have one (which took us years), and have tried for 8 years for a sibling. People say at least you have one - they totally dont get it. TBH we dont discuss it with very many people these days, most family dont agree with us having any more anyway so certainly wouldnt be supportive! I have a small number of people who know and give support - no one else has the faintest idea!

Thanks for that Lilo. I have been quite open, mainly because my moods are so up and down and I didn't want everyone to just think I was a horrible person! I kind of regret it now though as there will be expectation around our IVF that I really don't need.

I really hope things work out for you too xxx

Thanks juicygirl, I think Im a lost cause these days, but I keep on battling! I will certainly see it as a miracle if I ever do conceive!

I know what you mean about the moods, that just about sums me up! Everyone just thinks I am a cow! (only joking, I hope!) The expectation is a tough one, but hopefully it works and it wont be a problem.

Keep posting and keeping us up to date, it may help you being able to let off steam etc.

Good morning ladies (and gents if there be any of those lurking.)

So I did the HCG trigger shot last night.

At the last scan, I had 3 follicles, so hopefully one of them was ripe and ready..I just wish I could have some faith in my eggs..!

I feel a little pessimistic though because I couldn't do the last Gonal-F injection - the pen was empty! I must have stuffed up one of the earlier injections, because the clinic said they had given me 12 days worth and I suspect I'm more likely to have screwed up than them..

Nothing I can do about that now..

Plan is to DTD loads for next 2 days (as we have already done in last 2 days).

    Have a good Sunday!

For those of you doing/ have done injections how painful are they? I never used to be bothered about needles etc but the more bloods etc I have done related to all this in the last year the more freaked out I get by them!

    Good luck Chickpea! Xx

    Hi Juicygirl -

I had FSH (Gonal_F) injections daily from CD2 this cycle followed by a trigger shot on CD14 of HCG (Ovitrelle).

The Gonal F is a pen-style contraption - I found it a little complicated to use - but the needle itself is really thin - you can barely feel it.

The Ovitrelle needle is much the same - and as a bonus, is much easier to administer - just take off the cap and jab it in!

Hiya Chickpea, glad it is going well, 3 follies sounds great!

Try scratching the area before injecting, it confuses the nerve endings and you dont feel a thing! HTH

    Hi juicygirl.
I was open with everyone about my ICSI too. It became a personal aim of mine for the people around me to gain an understanding of infertility and what I was goign through. I don't really think there's a half way, you need to tell people everything - including how much certain comments can hurt, or keep it pretty quiet.
I found it practical for everyone to know too. I remember one occassion where the need to keep my meds refrigerated when on a course took involving about 6 different people - I don't know how I would have managed if I had been keeping it quiet. To be honest, I'm a talker, and I would never have managed to get through it all on my own. It was all that was on my mind, and had I not been saying it out loud, I wouldn't have been saying anything. It's also worth managing people's behaviour around the time of the ICSI too I think. Tell them how you will let them know if it worked, maybe saying if you don't mention it they are not to ask as it wouldn't have worked.
Here's my blog entry round the time I was considering if I shouldn't have let people know.
Everyone is entitled to handle the privacy issue their own way, but I was really pleased that a little of the taboo around infertility was taken away while I went through it all.

I used to ice my belly before the jabs - it made a difference for me. And almost throw the needle in like a dart - nice and quick, then plunge the needle more slowly, making sure it's nice and smooth. It's not too bad from the beginning, but you make it hurt less with practice. Ooh, and I also let the meds come up to room temperature a bit before I injected them.
    Good luck with your ICSI!

Chickpea and giblets- thank you so much for those replies, I really appreciate you taking the time. Off to read your blog now giblets :).

I haven't told too many people about the exact timing of the ICSI but my work and family will all know. Think I will just ask them not to ask, I will discuss it if and when I want to......
