The Trials and Tribulations of Trying to Conceive when its just not happening (12m+)

I wonder what's going on with me..
Without Clomid, I usually OV c. CD16. With it, last month I OV'd CD14 (before the whole cycle went haywire.
This month, I wasn't sure what was going on, because I ran out of OPKs on CD15 at which point there was still no +ve. I assumed I OV'd on CD18 or so. But this morning, CD21, I did an OPK (latest batch of ICs arrived) and it was definitely +ve. That's late.
More to the point, I have probably stuffed up - I had to do the CD21 blood test today at the hospital. I didn't really think about it and just did it.
But if today is the LH spike, there's a good chance I haven't even OV'd yet - which the blood test will show, no?
Another month, another fluff up due to my capricious ovaries!0 -
Ok, I'll give you the other side - the risks with the multiple pregnancy are much much higher than a single. On my last cycle I had no choice, but to take 1 - as that was all we had.
I would be tempted to have 2 put back in next time, but please remember that there are risks! Our doctor was telling us about the twin pregnancies with premature births and some where both babies were lost late in pregnancy. Yes, it can happen with the singletons as well, but the chances are much higher with twins.
I can't remember how old you are, I am 31, and I would consider 2 put back in. However, I am more likely to put 2 back in if I only have 2 embryos, or if there were not enough to freeze anyway. It is very personal. Please talk to you husband/partner how would you cope if you had twins. You still have a chance of having twins even if you have 1 put back in. Would you be able to cope with triplets? (I know, probably all of us think of course, the more the merrier, and I wouldn't have to go through the treatment again if I wanted another child, but please, please please - think with you head, not heart about this). I know we would have to change the car, the house we are in now would be big enough for 2/3 children (we have 4 bedrooms + "library") - but we have no family around and I would not want OH's retired mum living with us to help (she drives me crazy as it is). The nursery fees - I would probably be working for less money than the nursery fees if we had 3 at once, but I would probably be returning to work anyway, as it is not just about the first few years of their lives, it is for the rest of your life as well. However much I would like to stay at home with my children, I don't think that is feasible in the long run - if I want to have some sort of career and pension in the end. There are many other aspects to consider as well.

hi, thanks ginvzt, i am 34, we could practically cope with 2, plenty of room, 7 seat zafira, both sets of parents close by, and my 14 and 16 year old boys who have loved helping with their little nephews and nieces, and i don't have to go back to work, its the medical side that worries me more as second son was 7 weeks early, although doctors say it was just one of those things0

Hello GTS -
Sometimes just booking that first app is all it takes to relax you, I hope that's the case for you.
Generally, the GP will prob just ask the basic, obvious stuff like how long have you been trying (and they won't act usually when it's less than 12 months - which isn't you, since you're on here!) and are you having regular sex at the right times. S/he might ask about length of cycle, last period, if you have any pain or mid-cycle bleeding etc.
Then you'll prob. get some referral slips to get Day 1-5 and Day 21 blood tests done prob at your local hospital to check egg reserve and that you've definitely OV'd.
GP may wait for those results before your OH will need to undergo tests. Is OH willing?
Part of the reason it took me 3 and a half years with #1 was because of my husband prevaricating for over a year! Don't let it happen to you!
Hi Chickpea
Thanks for replying, very usefull info.
DH is in between I think. Think hes worried that the prob is with him. Trying to explain to him that its not about whos to blame but more finding out whats not working as it should. I'll have another word tonight i think to talk him around to book an app.
Hope everything goes ok for you. Will the hosp be able to delay your bood test? May be worth a phone call.
Runnerduck, I think I would push for 2 to go back in but its a decision thats totally up to you. Wishing you lots of luck.0 -
2WW. Don't like.

So I was talking to a woman this morning over coffee. She has 2 kids aged 10 and 1 - it took her 8 years to conceive #2, for no reason.
She is a bit older mind - but wouldn't have been 8 years ago!
She had failed IVF twice in the interim.
What worked was going back on the COCP for 6 months, then trying again immediately once she came off. Doctors said unlikely, but she proved them wrong.
I might give it a go in a year if nothing has happened - better 6 months of not trying at all then a BFP than 8 years of trying to no avail!0 -
Runnerduck how did you get on with todays scan and when is egg collection?
XBEST WIN LAST YEAR - MULBERRY HANDBAGSENDING STICKY VIBES TO THOSE WHO NEED THEM0 -
hi, had scan yesterday, i have 7 big folicles on the right with the leading one being 20mm, and 3 big ones on the left with the leading one being 18mm, the doctors seem happy with that, so the egg collection is going to be on monday, was so tired last night after work and the long trip to the hospital, but couldn't sleep as my stomach feels huge, bloated and tender, and i think my mind is worrying about monday.
Chickpea, its worth a try, if it has worked for someone else, it may work for you, good luck0 -
Runnerduck, good luck! 10 follicles is brilliant!!!:j
I had my 2nd IUI today, had 2 follicles like last time, both were released. DH's swimmers did much better than last time, there were 28 million motile (post wash) as opposed to 13 million motile last time:cool: Although morphology decreased from 4% to 3%:o
