    Hi epsilondraconis,

To answer your first question, there have been a few studies around egg quality - mainly around genetic screening.

    http://www.educatedearth.net/story.php?id=1519

I have a recent newspaper clipping with an update on this procedure (above) where 41 women are currently taking part in a trial of this screening method - 4 have given birth successfuly in the last few months and a "significant number" are at advanced stages of pregnancy.

If I can, I'll try and type it up over the weekend and post it.

After 4 years of heartache, 3 rounds of IVF and 1 loss :A - we are finally expecting our miracle Ki11en - May 2014 :j

And a VERY surprise miracle in March 2017!
  • Hi SK, thanks very much for the above link on egg quality (and the PM). My reading of the egg quality study is that the screening would be used in situations where a number of eggs are fertilised and they are attempting to determine which fertilised eggs should be implanted back into the womb. Does anyone know whether this screening procedure can be used as a precursor to help them select eggs for some form of genetic manipulation to improve the egg quality in an attempt to aide fertility? I'm just wondering whether this screening process is simply just a screening process or whether it can be used to somehow help improve the egg quality.

In our case my wife had 9 or 12 eggs removed (I can't remember the number exactly as it was 3 years ago now); however none of them fertilised supposedly because of the egg quality. It'll be great to think some tablets could be taken to help improve the egg quality or they could somehow change the egg to improve the chances. What's the betting that they'll need another 50 years or so of research to answer that one.

Thanks again for the link - it was very kind of you to post it. I'll do some more digging on t'internet to see what I can find...

Bad news, scan did not go well (15mm CD16):(
The egg has grown, but really slowly (10mm CD14), so the doctor thinks it is not a good egg. So no IUI this cycle:cry:

Normally ov at around CD19 is not bad, but having had Clomid & injections and having seen how my egg grew previously + my age, better not risk it.

As for the next, at this rate we'll miss my ov, but I asked for some tablets to delay my AF so if it works, I should ov when I'm with DH:o
We are delaying by about 2 weeks:shocked: But it'll depend on how slow the egg grows. If it's reaaally slow, then it'll be more like 10 days:p

The doctor told me my skin will be really greasy with this AF delaying tablets:shocked: Anyone had Norethisterone? It's my third time, but not for this long. Usually 7 tabs to induce AF, this time it's 15 days:lipsrseal Will I get fat?:rotfl:

The doctor said no need to use protection while BD, as egg won't fertilize anyway. I start the tabs at around 10DPO.
I will not test, I will not test, I will not test:p

I'm having second thoughts about taking AF delaying drug:(
Doctor was reluctant to prescribe it saying it could mess up my cycle. Haven't told DH yet, he should be coming home soon.

Told my mum, and she said whaaat?!
Also, she said ov at CD18/19 isn't late, she always ov'd around there. I always ov'd around there too since my teens. My cycles has always been 35days plus. Mum said hers was close to 40. Mum had 3 kids.

What was I thinking? Is missing December that important?
I'll be missing January anyway though, whether I take the tabs or not:o

    I want a baby now!:j I can't wait 'till February:o

    Hi everyone

Ep - sorry, I've not heard of anything to improve egg quality. Might be worth a google though

QQ - really sorry about the scan. Only you can decide what to do. However, one thing to bear in mind is that you seem to get resistant to drugs really quickly. Having a couple of months off might detox your body a bit, and mean you react better to drugs. For example, I've read that clomid can stay in your body for up to 60 days and as it builds up it has a negative effect!
What would you do in December if you did have another try? Are you still thinking about IVF in Feb?

CD2 for me so here we go again! I had a month off after the chem preg, and unsurprisingly had to take norethisterone to induce AF again (I don't O / get AF on my own)

Seems that way, is that bad?:(

    Detox? 2 months off?

IUI? It will be my second IUI.

I don't know, mum thinks I'm jumping the gun, I'm fed up waiting, DH seems to be in no hurry...

Having talked to DH, he doesn't like the idea of using drugs to delay AF. He's trying to see if he could come over when I ov. Pity my ov is so unpredictable:(
  • So sorry about the news QQuaver. It all seems so unfair.

Well, finally some good news..spotting has tailed off to nothing today - this quite often happens - meaning I don't count today as CD01 - meaning I CAN do CD01 FSH test at hospital, and start the Clomid the next day, probably Tuesday. Well hooray!

    +++++++++

I'm full of good resolutions - I've banned all booze for one thing, and junk food, and I've started taking some more of the vits that have been gathering dust in the medicine chest (just a B complex, high potency vit c, vit e and folic acid).

Now, I just need to stay chilled.

Good luck staying chilled, all of you, too!
