Hiya All, Just a quick question before bed, I have my hycosy on Tuesday and AF arrived today, Im assuming they cant go ahead with it now can they? Bloody thing, Also if shes here this time this month theres a good chance shell show up on my wedding day, See they pills you get that stop it for a few days do they cause any problems with TTC?
Night night x
Hi emmzy.
Like Lilo has said, most things can still go ahead when you are having AF. If you are comfortable to go ahead I'd call and ask them if they can do so. If you aren't comfortable to go ahead I'd call them to cancel and re-schedule (I'd be cancelling but that's just me)
Many years ago I used to take tablets given to me by my doctor that delayed AF. For the life of me I can't remember why though because I have been on the pill of one kind or another since age 11/12 and like Lilo said taking 2 packs of pills without a break stops your AF.
Only reasons I can think of was either I was too young to do this via the pills or I was on a pill at the time that didn't delay AF when taken constantly.
See your doc sooner rather than later because they might need time to get into your system (I can't remember how soon I started taking them before AF was due):heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

Obviously being a contraceptive, you would be able to ttc whilst taking it. Make an appointment to see your doc to discuss. I dont know if there are any other ways of doing this.
Hope this helps - lilo
There is a drug called norethisterone which you can take to delay a period if not on the pill. It ups the progestrone in the body and your period starts a few days after you stop taking it. I probably wouldn't have risked it when long term ttc, but on the other hand you only (hopefully) get one wedding day. Could you discuss the impact with your doctor now emmzi, so you have a few weeks to make a decision? You do need, from memory, to start taking it about 10 days before AF is due so you need to plan ahead to some extent.0 -
Thats the one I was on about not the pill, the one that delays it for a few days, will make an appointment with the doctor and call the hospital in the morning. I dont really fancy people fiddling around down there when its all yucky but i have to weigh up the pros an cons as the waiting list was about 3 months. If they dont have anything sooner I guess Ill just have to grin and bear it.. even tho I dont want to go ahead regardless of AF it sounds horrible lol Ah the things we do to ourselves ... Thanks for all the replys I knew someone clever on here would know what I was talking about!:)0

I had this in the early part of 2009. I was told not to worry if AF was present as they insert a dye into you any way so it has to come out. When you do go into have the procedure make sure you take a few paracetamol before hand as it is most uncomfortable and on a couple of occassions i winced as they dr couldnt get the tube in straight away.
As for the norethisterone if you get a prescription for 5mg you take it 3 times a day and you can still get pregnant while taking it so if that month is an issue then you may have to go down the condom route. HTH.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

I definatly wouldnt mind getting pregnant, infact Id be over the moon that would just make it the best day of my life times two!
Just didnt want to ruin my expensive white underwear or dress! I heard the hycosy was uncomfortable and causes cramps after and to take paracetamol anyway and the girl at my diet group tells me the wee balloon thing they inflate is smaller than a golfball but feels like a basketball when they inflate it lol Ohhh I hate all things medical... My other fear BTW is hairdressers and people touching my hair... I have a hair style trial on Thursday, This just isnt my week

You learn something new everyday! I have had 2 hycosys and didn't know they inflate a balloon inside you so that tells you how big it feels....I didn't even know :rotfl:
Now I have googled it it's to keep the tube in place when they remove the speculum.
Other than taking paracetamol my advice would also be to take pads with you (to soak up the dye as it comes out) and have one in your knicks ready. Also I found wet wipes handy to go into the loo afterwards and have a bit of a tidy up:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Good afternoon ladies, hope your week has started well today - especially so to Lilo that the news wasn't as bad as you feared, you're in my thoughts today xx
Emmzy, good luck for tomorrow as I'm assuming you're going to be brave and go ahead with it... x0 -
Awww thanks Madmac, its nice that you remembered my little jaunt.
Well. I went. Mostly good news, but still nothing is ruled out as yet. The colposcopy was clear, and as it stands it is probably a false negative BUT they are still carrying out further tests as it could be that the problem is below the surface and therefore not visible/detectable. The MRI scan was clear so if there is anything present it is at cell level and there is no tumour present.
He has taken 2 seperate smears, to isolate where the problem may be. The next step is to wait for these results. If they are clear I believe that that will be the end of it, although I will prob have another colposcopy to confirm and the bad result written off as either a false positive or the smear not being taken correctly. If the result still shows abnormal cells, they will take a biopsy under GA (they may do this anyway if they want to be doubly sure) and then see what happens.
IF action is required, it is hystectomy, although he has confirmed that I may be able to go for radiotherapy instead.
From the discussion we had, I believe that in his experience it is not going to be a problem. But because my tumour was glandular rather than skin he cannot rule it out 100% from the colposcopy alone. So I am reasonably reassured, but will feel better once I have a conclusive answer in a months time.
Sorry for the long post, can you tell I am releasing a lot of panic, and thinking out loud as I type?
Emmzy, am glad that someone had a better answer than me on the delaying AF thingymajig, and I wish you all the best for the hycosy tomorrow. Dont worry about AF, it is a perfectly normal process, its just that we are programmed to think its yucky.
Day 21 and still high, DH is worn out!! If last month is anything to go by, he has another 4/5 days to go!!!

Phew Lilo, so relieved for you and at least that will lift the fog for a little while and in a month the good news will continue. Treat yourself to something nice tonight and I think DH owes you something good tonight - you deserve a treat after getting through today0
