  • Hi all

time2deal - thank you, I should've known better, you're right that nothing ever looks good on google! And wishing you huge amounts of good luck for your ICSI cycle x

big zippy - thank you for the advice, so many people say Clomid is a wonder drug and works straight away so it's nice to hear from someone who took a few months! :)

whattodonow - excellent news on the funding!

You think that's bad Codemonkey?! My infertility unit in hospital shares the waiting room with..... Yes! You've guessed it! Antenatal!

mokba43 - ahh, you're not at the same clinic as me are you!? The waiting room for our FS appointments is the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit and Antenatal Ward! Seriously, you couldn't make it up! :rotfl:

mrs happy - congratulations on becominng an auntie! :T

wonderwoman - a couple of my friends from work know (they're also friends outside work) and I did tell my boss when I went in for a HSG, saying that we might be having IVF later in the year. My workplace hasn't got any official fertility policy, it's just at the line manager's descretion and luckily mine is okay about it. I've been using my own flexi for our FS appointments but when it gets to having more appointments and procedures, my boss has said that I can have any time off I need. She also can't really say any different because another lady from work had IVF last year and was given all the time off for it free of charge! :p

The GP said normally he would refer to a urologist first, but if the scan doesn't show up a varicocele then realistically there's probably nothing a urologist could do and he doesn't want to hold up the process.

angeltreats - my DH has had a varicocele for about 17 years, he saw a Urologist years ago who confirmed that was what it was and when we were refererred to the fertility clinic, they also sent him back to the Urologist again. DH has said it's uncomfortable all the time and they have offered to operate on it (apparently the NHS will only operate if it causes the bloke pain and not beacause of a reduced sperm count because there's no evidence to say it improves sperm results). DH hasn't gone for it though as they told him it *could* be a 6 month recovery period! He (sensibly) thought that wouldn't be very good when combined with TTC.

Best wishes to everyone and hello to any other fellow newbies x

Hi everyone, I was about to join the ttc thread, and then saw Wonder Woman's thread about starting IVF, and all the suggestions to come here, so thought I would lurk and follow her over!
A bit of background, I'm 27, OH is 29, we've been ttc for 18 months. Went to the fertility specialist last november and was referred for a laproscopy, which subsequently diagnosed moderate endometriosis and adhesions in my fallopian tubes. Apparently they've fixed both problems, but three months post surgery we are still very unpregnant. ( I know its only three months, but I have quite short cycles so have actually had 4 very depressing periods in that time). They wouldn't start me on clomid or anything because my tests indicated I ovulate 2 out of 3 months.
I have resigned myself to the fact that we may not be able to conceive without assistance. We would be elligible to start IUI in november, which although is only a few months away, feels like an eternity!
Welcome Smookle. I had the surgery in May for the same thing and I'm still not pregnant. Did your FS say they had fixed the problem? As I think it only improves chances of conceiving for 8 months. Sorry if that's not what you want to hear. What tests did you have to indicate whether you ovulate or not?

I'm waiting for my patient evening letter too. I'll say when mine is as it seems even more likely that we'll be at the same patient evening.

    Exciting news about the wedding.

    .

TBH I was a little spaced out when they came and told me about the surgery but my understanding at the time combined with the letter they posted out afterwards suggests they think they cleared everything and that I should be all clear. I know there is only up to a year of clearance with certain removal procedures ( I think diathermy being the least successful long term from what I've read at the Endometriosis UK group). So I guess I may have to have another lap next year if still no BFP. I've got an appointment with the FS next week, as my periods are actually worse than ever now, they are heavier, and still just as painful.

As for ovulation, they did a progesterone test about a week after I ovulated, the first was the wrong time but it looked like I had ovulated, the second I didn't (and had a 22 day cycle) and the third was fine so they decided I shouldn't start on clomid. She seemed to think that if I had a 22 day cycle that I probably didn't ovulate, but I thought if you didn't ovulate then you didn't get a period? Still very new to all this! Gonna start charting temperatures from this month as never seem to be sure if I've ovulated or not!

Whattodnow - congratulations on booking your wedding! Planning is great fun! We're celebrating our 2 year anniversary on monday and it still feels like yesterday that we got married!

mokba43 and frozenpenguin - ours is the same. We've got antenatal, early pregnancy and infertility all in the same waiting room, although they have made a half hearted attempt to seperate them with a board and a water cooler lol

I wonder if we would complain if the hospitals kept us separate from the pregnant women - as though we might contaminate the others with our infertility. Ha ha.

Smookle, the information I have is from the internet, my FS did not talk about improved chances. For me the pain is not worse but it's a lot heavier. I found it very hard to track my temperature and finally moved onto the CBFM. BTW, the monitor can be bought a lot cheaper off fleabay (new) than in the shops & we buy about 3 packs of sticks at a time off Am4z0n. Sometimes I only use 10 and others 20 a cycle. By buying a few packs at once the batch number is the same and I can use packs across different cycles.

Just wanna say these injections suck. I knew they had to be done, but... ow! At first hubby tried to do it in my belly, but he came at me like Christian Bale in Psycho - but without the looks. Now I do it myself and eat a tub of ice cream after :-) x
