Hello, catching up after a long festival weekend.

Lucy - unbelievable what happened at the clinic. Hope things go during 2WW and you have a BFP.

    Hi WonderWoman, Smookle & purcy81.

WonderWoman - we've started telling friends, family & workmates; they've mainly been supportive and interested rather than piteous (thankfully as I couldn't cope with pity). A few people have told us about other couples they know who are having fertility treatment. Definitely made us feel less alone & isolated in RL. I haven't told a couple of people as I know their reactions won't be helpful but they are the exceptions. For work - do you have a union rep who could look into your company's policies/ approach to fertility treatment generally or go with you if you want to discuss it with your boss?

I'll be speaking to my boss tomorrow about time off & am bricking it. I've got no leave left for this year as technically my contract only started halfway through the year. But we're only eligible for egg sharing if we do the cycle this year.

Good luck Tealover, I hope that they will be understanding.
Can't they suck some sperm out of his billy ballbags and then use it for IUI or something similar? You're so young and there's no suggestion that you're sub-fertile so I'm not sure if you'd actually need a full-blown IVF cycle with meds and egg collection and all that malarky.

What's your consultant said about other options?

I thought exactly the same but they didn't offer any other options and said should just plough on with IVF - didn't dare argue. Perhaps they are just thinking of what is most likely to be successful in our case? We are in the dark really.

ETA: Rowingirl - I agree it's good to be open if you feel able to. I think if we decide that we are going to go for it then I will have to approach my manager but want to be armed with all the information first :)

All the info I've seen on the interweb says that the longer you take clomid, the more your chances decrease - I haven't found very many people so far who've concieved on clomid cycle 5, 6 or even later, so I'm not holding out much hope for the next two months.

Frozen penguin- nothing good has ever come from Dr Google! I think bz was on her last clomid cycle and got a bfp, so there is always hope.
    Very close, t2d :p

I was prescribed 6 cycles, I did 5 on the trot with absolutely no hope anything would come of it, most of the time (I had a lap to sort my endometriosis and dodgy tubes out just before hand and was pretty much convinced my tubes would still be knackered regardless). By the end of the 5th cycle I was thoroughly fed up with the cumulative side effects and decided to take a break from it. The 2nd cycle after that I decided to skip the clomid once again as dh was having groin pain and was due a scan to check him over... This is the cycle I miraculously got my BFP. :) I'm now 20wks (scan in 8hrs!).

Some doctors/FS's say the effects of clomid stay in your system for up to 6 months after, some say it only effects that particular cycle - but the way I felt about the cumulative effects, I would err on the side on the former opinion tbh.

Thinking it's more to do with the clomid effects.
Due to start my last cycle soon (not hopefull this month, Cramps etc atm). In 2 minds to try it this month, due to the way I have been feeling. Work in a high stressed based job and don't want to feel incapable of doing my job due to it.
Do last month or have a break? or tell manager?
See my comments to frozen penguin. I personally couldn't hack the last cycle when it came to it, I was sick of migraines etc. It's up to you, obviously, but I didn't regret leaving it and if it's causing you more stress to take it then personally I find that to be a bit counterproductive.:o

Good luck with starting your ivf cycle t2d!

Hope you don't get any hassle about the time off, tealover

I'll be keeping an eye on you all ;)

Hi all, have been mia due to a lovely relaxing holiday, but now back to reality......
T2d thanks so much for doing the lists, they're so sad in one way, but a reminder that none of us are on lonely journeys in another.

Lucy hope you're ok after what sounds to be a horrendous ordeal.

Tea hope your discussions with your boss went well.

Hi to everyone new on here, and fingers crossed for those on clomid.

Thanks for the good luck re. work wishes ladies. My boss is lovely, but the company itself isn't so her hands are going to be tied to some extent. I've got 1 or 2 days of AL for this year, that's it, so anything else will need to be flexitime or unpaid leave. I'm not sure if either of those things are even allowed for this so that's what the conversation will be about this afternoon.

Realistically we wouldn't be starting till at least october so I could build up quite a few hours before then. Just need to find out how many I can carry over etc.

Hopefully for scans I can just make up the time, but I know from last time that I'll need time off around EC/ET (especially if I get evil OHSS again).

If you do get OHSS though tea you will be signed off and able to take sick leave rather than annual or unpaid leave. If you can do scans using flexi time, then it is only EC and ET you need covered with annual leave. Is it an option to work from home for a few days post ET if you need to take things a bit easier?
  • Glad it went well tea.
Thank you zippy, don't think I could stand another week like last week. Am sure the increased work load didn't help. Spent the whole week and weekend in tears. Even in tears in front of staff that I am a leader to, not a good show.
