The Trials and Tribulations of Trying to Conceive when its just not happening (12m+)

Primmer - That sounds absolutely ridiculous that its the credit card debt that has set you back! Makes me so angry to think of all these people who don't have jobs at all popping babies out like rabbits and that's fine apparently but you can't get help because you had to pay to try and have a child!
AFM - We had our appointment today at the hospital where the doctor didn't seem concerned at all about OH's results which to me seems very strange considering our GP told us there weren't good at all!
Anyway she concluded that I don't ovulate, but that maybe we were just doing the day 21 bloods on the wrong days, but after explaining ( AGAIN ) that I can't tell them which days to take it because my cycles vary from 20 days to 64 days and that I'd like to see them try and work it out, she had to agree that the tests were right - I wasn't ovulating.
So we have finally been prescribed 50mg Clomid, and they have given me Provera to start a fresh cycle, as I am on day 10 today and I wasn't willing to wait it out and see how long this one lasted!
I am trying very hard not to pin my hopes on this one tablet giving us our miracle, but what else can we do? I am fed up of the disappointment. We review in 6 months, and do a day 21 blood test after the first cycle to see if it has worked, if not they will up the dose.
I really hope I don't have to go to that January appointment.....0 -
Wow, sometimes it feels like everyone is sitting in limbo for ages, and then we get a rush of referrals, decisions by drs etc and we're all on the move again!
Primmer, I do think you'd have a case to argue regarding paying off the debt, particularly if you can demonstrate you'd be able to manage the repayments during adoption leave. As Claire pointed out earlier, you'll also have time during the adoption assessment and training. There are lots of advantage vs disadvantage debates about being assessed by your local authority vs independent agency. Try and think positively until Sept. Best of luck.0 -

There does seem to be a rush of activity at the moment.... exciting times! Best of luck for everyone going for appts, having adoption meetings, undergoing treatment, etc. Fingers crossed for all of us xx.0 -

Hi, I hope you don't mind me commenting, I am due to come across to this thread in about 6 weeks or so.....
I have been prescribed clomid by my doctor as OH is fine and its me that is not ovulating. I started 50g of Clomid this cycle - I am 12dpo and tested this morning and got a negative unfortunately. AF is due saturday.
The doctor told me that its the most successful drug at getting you to ovulate so I am not being sent for scans or blood tests whilst taking it for 3 cycles..... So it sounds like you are still having the blood tests with a view to upping if necessary. I am phoning my doctor to ask if I can up it on cycle 3.
We will start round 2 on Sunday if the witch arrives on Saturday. Just have to stay positive but I really fell to earth with a bump today
good luck xxx0 -
Little me so sorry for your BFN, I have heard the effects of Clomid built up so am hoping that next cycle is lucky for you., doesn't make the heartbreak any easier though *hugs*

It's normal to be hopeful when we're trying something new - after all, the people that give us these pills make out they're wonderful!
I was genuinely shocked when I didn't ovulate on CD14 on my first clomid cycle. I really thought it was guaranteed:rotfl:.

Hi litteme
I'm sorry to hear your going through the same thing. We hear of so many people who have fallen pregnant on clomid that we can't help but believe it will work. I'm sorry it didn't for you this time.
We have been trying 2 and a half years now, with a mmc 18 months ago. The disappointment gets too much doesn't it.
Fingers crossed I can start clomid in 2 weeks time after this provera does its job. But I'm going to try not to believe it will happen in the first 3 months!
I want to hope with all my heart that finally this will work for us but if I do that I'm setting myself up for even more headache!
If you want to pm me feel free :-)
Good luck with this cycle xx
Meant to add - yes I have to do a day 21 blood test after the first clomid round, she said she wanted it to be above 50 ( progesterone - normally mine is 3! ) to show it has worked, she said if it isn't above 50 they will put me on 100mg of clomid on the second cycle.0 -
Mrs Davo - those reviews are the same as the preseed/conceive plus stories - these women sound like they would have conceived through immaculate conception!
My 21day bloods were borderline low so they doc was hopeful that a surge of clomid would help - we'll just have to wait and see.
I hope you get your BFP soon x0 -
Littleme its normal to be hopeful, it's what keeps us going, I remember really thinking my first cycle would work. These drugs do help a great number of us ladies so hang in there.
