Met a man who received 8 units (bags) of blood following a complicated surgery. Because of people who give blood, he is alive and well.
Well done everybody.

Hi everyone,
this is such a great thread so i decided to donate blood last monday.
Can anyone tell me how long it would be for them to contact me if i tested positive for anything? Not that i think i have anything, just curious.

First donation today in over a year, it felt really good to be back.0

That 3 weeks went fast, they took a triple dose today and my arm is a bit sore from the needle being in there for nearly 90 minutes.
Had a good chat with the staff and it was good to get in out of the rain for a while
Booked in again on 12th August.0 -
They wouldn't take mine as I worked in the adult industry, even though I got checked every 28 days and was very safe outside work sexually, makes me so angry!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I hope you don't mind me asking, but I was under the impression you could only give blood every 12 weeks or so? Is this not the case?Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

If you are a regular blood donor, and you have a little more time to spare, ask at your next session to be considered for donating platlets, if your count is high enough and your veins are good enough to support the extra pressure of the return cycle, go for it.
Any questions, I would be happy to help (if I can) as will the staff at your regular donor sessions, there is also information on the Blood Transfusion website.0 -
For whole blood it is but I am a platlet donor so I give more often.

Ah I see, that makes sense.
I've only given blood once so far so might be a bit early for that. I am hoping to donate again at the end of August but had an operation last month and when I phoned last week, they said I could only donate when I had no more follow up appointments for it. I'm due back at the hospital in a couple of weeks so i'll have to wait and see how that goes first.

I have a heart murmur and they wouldn't let me. Very frustrating as I have never had any treatment or medication, can I not tell them next time or will I be on a system somewhere that will tell them. I'd give blood, bone marrow - anything I've got going spare, but they won't let me!0
