Things are definitely turning a corner for you Seaxwyn, that much is quite apparent from your posts.

Good for you! Just need to keep an eye on the outgoings, I guess. But the no-bump-in-January is brilliant.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

I'm working at home today as my monthly train ticket ended yesterday. Work are fine about me taking a day or two at home now and then so I plan to eke out the monthly and weekly tickets - I am so grateful to Essex Hebridean and Kiss Jenn for your advice on that!
Thanks all for your nice posts. I'm not sure I've totally turned the corner on money management. My take home pay is £1777 and my standing orders alone come to almost that, and that's not including some costly items such as council tax (£148/month), train ticket £210/month), gas, not to mention food..... So we are still very far from solvent and I have still not dared to do a SOA.
I have had loads of freelance work the past two weeks. I did 16 hours billable freelancing last week, on top of the full-time job and commuting. It was knackering and I wouldn't like to do it every week but it's good that the work is out there.
Otherwise we have had some good luck. I received a £20 voucher for Pizza Express and had a great night out with a friend. DD has been invited to go to Cornwall for two weeks in August with a friend of hers, we'll give them some money towards her keep but the accommodation is free.
Best of all, I have been invited to join a fiction writer's group and to submit a short story for a collection. I am so happy! Being a proper writer has been my ambition all my life. This has really excited me and confirmed that life can be what you want even if there are obstacles like debt and non-earning husbands in your way.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
That sounds good, Seaxwyn - I used to do similar with various tickets - nowadays, I have an oystercard - you'd be astonished at how cheap it is per journey, if you're just going in and out of London with no side trips, and you can get those really cheap fares in, they're great.
Congrats on the writer's group - invite only sounds *very* cool.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Everything sounds good and writing a fiction sounds wonderful.0
