Well to my surprise my OH went to the doctor today and came away with a prescription for an anti-depressant called citalopram. I've looked it up online and now feel anxious that this is not appropriate, aargh.....

Also, I have taken on a freelance writing job to do this weekend and in principle accepted another one for the near future. I'm really pleased to know the work is still out there for me, but a bit anxious about the pressure of getting it done.

I have accepted that I can't avoid going overdrawn on my Nat West account this month (avoiding that overdraft is one of my main DFW goals and so far have been successful apart from a few short-lived blips). It can't be helped while we have only one income and January was a particularly expensive month.

And worryingly I am saving up two of the four credit card bills to pay after I get paid, effectively shifting them from this month to next month. Not a sustainable way of managing outgoings.

A "sustainable way of managing outgoings" includes being able to shift them about to ensure that you are not in arrears.....it is a very useful skill you know, and one I have used on many occasions!

See the fact that OH went to the GP as a real positive - time will tell if the tablets are the right ones - and if they are not, he can go back and get them changed, or get the dosage amended etc.....but until he tries them, and gives them chance to work, you will not know if they are the right ones for him. As you say, it is a surprise he even went in the first place, which shows he is doing something right :T

And excellent news on the continued work being out there for you - just make sure you do it!!

I'm glad your OH has gone to the doctor! Well done him... that is a BIG step! He'll just need to give the tablets a chance. No 2 depressed people are the same and if his GP has prescribed them then chances are he needs them...

I have been on anti-deps 3 times - they helped me to deal with things day to day and actually function. They meant that I didn't have the massive lows and could actually manage to get out of bed and into work regularly (although I certainly wasn't 100% better)! They were simply a helping hand... a very useful and helpful one. I felt a bit like a failure for needing them the 1st time and I hated having to take them - but I honestly think things would have been so much worse had I not taken them.

Has he been refered for any other treatment too? (counselling, CBT etc?) I found mindfullness meditiaion helped me a fair bit once I wasn't quite so low anymore... As part of my treatment I did an NHS course similar to the 8 week bit of this book. The book is very good! I was horribly sceptical about it initially but was up for trying something that may help and for me it did! I still try to do some mindfull meditation everyday even if it is only a few minutes...

Thanks everyone! Taka, yes he has been referred for some counselling. I will also show him that book you recommend, thanks! I'm a bit anxious about how the medication will affect him, and also that he will use the 'label' as an excuse to stop making any effort. We'll see. He is doing two hours driving tomorrow, which is something.

I got briefed on the job and yikes, it's daunting. Oh well, I can do it!
