Hi all. We had a good Christmas, thanks. The turkey has so far done 3 meals and there is lots left in the fridge. And my dad and sister chipped in some cash towards the food, which I was embarrassed to take but they insisted.

I've got a few days off now before I'm back to work and am trying to think of fun things to do that don't cost. DD2 wants to go to the Natural History Museum, something to do with an art project, so that will be one good outing.

I'm looking forward to new year and a new approach to money... though it's scary to think of having just one paycheque a month from now on.

At least it's a decent cheque each month and regular so that's a real positive.I love the start of a new year as there's so much positivity about.

Hi chev. No jobseekers yet - but all the paperwork is finally complete, he is going to ring the main office today.

Meanwhile, out of the blue, OH received a payment of £400 from the art college, some backpay, very surprising as he has not worked there since May! True to form, he went and bought a trolleyload of food in Sainsbury's. However he got some marked down Christmas stuff so probably good value, and it takes the pressure off me to buy food.

I'm looking forward to doing my first real budget. I won't know the size of my pay packet til 29 January.

I had a lovely day out in London yesterday with three of the children. We went to the Natural History Museum and for a walk around Chinatown, all free, and they spent some of their Christmas money on Chinese sweets.

Hoorah, it's 31 December. I always take the New Year very seriously as an opportunity to make changes and start afresh.

Someone on here has a system of coloured buckets for different areas of life (money, work, health etc) which I would like to adopt for 2010. Can anyone remember who that is?

I'd like to start the new year with a relatively tidy house and no tedious tasks hanging over me so I need to get a few jobs done today. I also need to finish my letter to President Evo Morales (see above), I started one last night but it's a bit cheesy and a bit short.
