Hiya - thanks everyone for saying no to the paper round, I had come to that conclusion too. An hour less sleep every morning is not worth it. OH would never do it though - mornings definitely not his thing.

EH, I don't work at home very often, it's just that we always can if we want to. So I was thinking I could tag the odd day here and there. I think I'll do the monthly tickets as suggested yesterday.

  • KJ makes a good point - it will certainly be worth considering how you can manipulate working at home days around the period after a monthly ticket has ended. (Ie, monthly ends on a Thursday - work from home on a Friday, renew ticket three days later. Do remember to take bank holiday weekends into account when you're planning your ticket purchases too. The thing that still shocks me rigid is how much money we save by having the second car for MrEH - we put aside £75 per month depreciation for each car, then he does about two tanks of diesel a month on top, so another £100-ish - we save about £75 per month on the cost of the travelcards. We're fortunate that he can park for nothing mind you - even in London so long as you don't mind a walk there is still some free street parking out there!

The biggest draw back to doing the paper round in winter, is what happens if you slip and bust your leg. Then you are absent from the proper job aswell, so the £20 isn't worth it.....

In other news I have had a lucky 7 days. I won a pretty huge ham in one raffle, and my mum won a lovely christmas cake (except it has walnuts in it bleugh), in another one! So I have got a raffle ticket for a mountain bike, just in case the thing about lucky coming in 3's is actually true....

Wow - great run of luck Chev! We won a Christmas tree in a raffle last weekend. Do you feel Christmassy down there in midsummer?

In all honesty? No but that is more due to not seeing the people at christmas than anything else. But the weather also makes it weird too. Ie getting warmer and sunnier, when you should be curled up in front of a log fire, in the middle of a dartmoor blizzard sipping mulled wine.....

Hi Sea! I haven't updated as I have nothing to say really. OH's claim for Jobseeker's Allowance has still not been decided as the bloomin' DWP have lost his forms, not just once but twice. We are taking a third form in today. Luckily they have admitted it's their fault and offered a 'crisis loan' so I am going with him to find out what that entails. The poor chap cracked 3 ribs falling on the ice on Saturday and is feeling very sorry for himself, so could do without having to struggle into the job centre yet again.

I'm working until tomorrow, and looking forward to the Christmas break. I am working at home today because of the snow, finding it hard to concentrate on work stuff however. I still have to get a few presents for Christmas but have spent virtually nothing, thanks largely to the generosity of some lovely DFW friends.

Isn't a crisis loan about £100 and then you pay it back about £1 a week? Could be completely wrong however!!

So ridiculous about the dwp losing the forms - grr!!

Ouch to the broken ribs and bah to the lost forms - I hope you get them sorted soon.

Hopefully I will "see" you about before Christmas, but if I don't, I hope you and yours have a very good one, and here's to a very positive new decade xx
