I've found a few bits and pieces and hope OH will do likewise. Also, while excavating the bottom of the wardrobe I found 1p and a pair of boots I bought possibly 15 years ago and had forgotten about, I hardly wore them at the time so they are more or less new boots!

Change of plan, I'm not going to do the carboot sale. When I brought out the lego, duplo and knex I had been saving to sell DS insisted he still wants them and I felt I could hardly take his toys away. These are the only things I have of any value.

So instead of standing in the sleet for 6 hours tomorrow morning I will write a report I need to finish before I can claim the final instalment of my freelance pay. That feels like a better way of spending a Sunday morning anyway.

Next week I have 2 days off work and I have arranged to work in the local shop for those days. I'm wondering whether to do a paper round for the first three months of 2010. It means getting up super early in the dark and cold every day, for £20/week. Is it worth it? I am undecided.

I'll be with you then, Seax - I have to cover DS's paper round while he is away skiing.........I will only get £12 a week though.....and will view it as character building

I don't blame you pulling out of the car boot when you have other things that can be done more profitably. Just make sure that the old procrastination thing doesn't kick in!

    You still here??

I do the DDs' paper round fairly often when they are unavailable, and I never mind doing it, but the three month commitment in winter feels a bit more daunting, especially as I'll be going to work every day as well. but I suppose I should do it really. Your DS should ask for a raise though! Down here they get £2/day for weekdays and £5/day for weekends - so £20/week.

I agree with get other half to do it.
EH had the best advice on tickets so I've nothing to add.
  • I think the paper round would just be too much to be honest - no point in killing yourself for it.

    Hi Seax,

Can I throw in one more thought to travel. EH's idea is great however you then added you frequently work from home. If you add that to the mix and freqently is at least three times a month so 36 days a year you are probably better off with a weekly ticket.

So 10 monthly plus 2 weekly (to allow for hols) = 2210.40 (18.40 more expensive than annual and no upfront cost - great solution).

However if you are absent 25 days hol + 9 bank + 36 WFH = 14 weeks not travelling.
38 weekly tickets (or less if you work from home more) = 2078.60 (113.40 saving on an annual!)

It really depends on how much you work from home and making times work between tickets. It also allows less chance of losing pre-paid time if you or the kids are ever ill.

Just another thought - hope thats ok.
