If you don't recognise the number, don't ring them back- unless it starts with an 01 or 02. If it's important enough they'll try again.

I've just had a recorded message when I answered my home phone.

The message went someting like 'Hi this is Steve from DHL just wondering when would be convenient to deliver your aerial please call us back on 07012907216'

It's Ben who leaves messages for me:o I have posted on this board before about the same message and one day I was actually at home and answered the phone to hear Ben say "Hi I'm from DHL and need to arrange delivery of a parcel etc" The actual phone call is a recorded message though, there was not a live person on the other end of the phone.

That site is not always accurate as it only shows which network the number was originally assigned to. I have just tried my own mobile number and, yes, it was originally assigned to Vodaphone. Since then it's been ported to Orange, then BT Mobile and now Virgin Mobile.

If you get these calls, DO NOT call back. You will get an automated saying "we are try to connect you to the person you are calling" or something similar, to keep you holding on, whilst being charged £1.50 a minute

I had the first number (missed) call me today. I found this through a google search :
    http://www.sennir.co.uk/Journal/75
which at least explains the source, but I can't vouch for the cost of calling them back, although the google cache search at the bottom of the linked page seems to say it's a "normal" charge.

If I don't recognise the number - I don't call back, why put it on my 'phone bill ?
If it is genuine/urgent, they will leave a name or ring back.
Also, if I am there when the phone rings, if I see it's an 08** number I pick the phone up and immediately replace it.
