These were my thoughts exactly. It is not the style that should matter, but safety!!!!!!
I agree. Stylish & cheap should be just about the bottom of your list when choosing a car seat!
For our second car seat (9 months+) we went to several shops & enquired about the safest car seat on the market that wasn't Isofix & were advised it was the Maxi Cosi Tobi - so this is what we bought, but it wasn't cheap at £160.

I am looking to get a group 1 seat for when we have friends with children visit us and hopefully for our own sometime soon (none of our yet, but fingers crossed), and I quite liked the idea of Maxi-Cosi Axiss, the one that turns. Not cheap either, but the safety is the most important!!!!Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -

ginvzt, I have read a few reviews on the Axiss & have heard people say that unless you have a physical need for this seat turning (not sure if you have, sorry) then it's not really worth it. I looked into this seat as I had always said to OH why can't they make one that turns so I don't crack my head on the door frame everytime I get DD out& then it appeared after we'd already chosen the other seat . It might be worth having a good google?
Oh & to the OP - I'm not suggesting everyone needs to buy the most expensive one on the market but I think that everyone should chose the safest one they can make themselves afford.

You can find them anywhere.
Whether they fit the car or not though is a different thing.
You can't just buy a carseat without having one fitted properly.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
For checking if a seat goes in a particualr car, I know that the maxi cosi website has a function for checking that, so other manufacturers may also have this.
When the OP finds one they like I would just google it and see what deals come up where on the net (that is what I did) although I am borrowing the one I will be using (maxi cosi carbio and easyfix base) from my friend as I know where it has come from and that it is not damaged or been involved in an accident, so as long as you are careful and know the source well, second hand can be ok in my opinion.0 -
lizziebell - the maxicosi website doesn't show any reasonably new cars sadly - best bet is go and try it in your car - pretty much everywhere will let you try it out before buying though
We have a 54 plate Santa Fe and a new Passat CC and neither were listed on the maxiCosi site and yet when tested it fitted both - one with iso fix the other without
As for stylish and cheap... would you also buy the most stylish and cheap safety climbing harness instead of one with a good safety rating? Bearing in mind you'll be relying on it to save you if you fell off the cliff you were climbing? No... thought not
You buy the safest you can afford - style does not enter into it!DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

They don't have every make and model of car though, which isn't much good really.
The only way to know for sure is to go car seat shopping with your car.
The carseat isn't for the OP, so OP can't just buy one and hand it over to the new parents unless they have an identical car and can get it fitted.
People shouldn't choose one they like. Style shouldn't matter at all. They should choose one which fits and is the safeest.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0
