becky004 wrote:Is there any way of listing an Open University Pack? Have tried the ISBN and searching but cant find it. Back in Uni now so bought 9 text books and the pack for a fiver. 1 of them was mint no other used only new, thought I'd list it for £20, did a check of the book found what i thought was a wad of paper that had been used as a book mark. On closer inspection it was the remains of chapter 11, some imbecile has ripped the whole chapter out! Bloody thing is worthless! Do you think it would be worth listing and saying the chapter is missing. Its not a novel so the chapters can be read individually? On the plus side have listed 6 for a total of £80, and 1 I'm waiting to list as the 3 copies on Amazon are selling for £385 and up which is a little unrealistic I fancy! Tried to value it but it only has american ones 1 at $100 and 1 at $960. Anyone got any advice on where to get a decent valuation have tried Abe and Bookfinder. Or should I just list it for £50 or something?
Hi Becky
Unfortunately Amazon specify here that books listed have to be intact so think you're stuck with a bit of a turkey there sadly.
Whenever I've had a book that I can't find a realistic price for, I've done as you suggest and started high and lower the price very gradually until I get a taker or until I reach a price that I'm happy with as a minimum. Bear in mind Amazombie's recent advice that the potential buyer may only visit Amazon once a year and by constantly lowering the price you might do yourself out of some profit. Difficult to know though isn't it.
Have you checked ebay to see if it's sold recently on there?0 -
Becky - it's tough over your patchwork book, it reminds me of grimeldas signature which is about not losing your page or bothering with a bookmark - just tear each page out as you've read it .... if it was me I'd try ebay with it or even take it back for a refund and move on, sometimes something isn't worth the mental energy trying to make it work.
I get like that with my ebay china, after re-listing and re-photographing and waiting for 6 months to re-list to see if it will find a buyer I admit defeat by either giving it to a charity shop with good grace or list it for a silly price of 90p and hope that it goes for more but either way I can move on to more profitable pieces with out it dragging me down
No idea about the OU pack, ebay again?
The 'valuable' book you mentioned at the end? if you think that £50 is achieveable for it I'd start higher just to chance it and see how that goes for a month or two then I'd hit £50 and leave it for a good while0 -
I managed to get £23 on eBay for a book with missing pages, my listing was honest too. Might be worth a try. Would it be better to save it till Sept/Oct when people are due to start the next OU courses.Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!0

Have a look on https://www.Amazon.com. Sounds like an American Publication in which case its quite possible that a UK buyer doesnt exist. Also bear in mind what the subject matter is and who the potential buyer might be?
If its an academic book for students then no impoverished student is going to pay £ 385 for it. Have you also checked for later printings of the same book going cheaply. Sometimes an old edition may have a ludicrous price where the latest edition is going for peanuts and it would be no surprise which the buyer would choose.0 -

Hi all,
Today I got a "dispatch now" message for a DVD I was selling. I packaged it up, took it to the post office and sent it.
Just now, I got a "sale remains pending" message, advising me to hold on to the item for now. Great!
Has anyone else experienced this? How can they tell me it's pending *after* telling me to dispatch? I've only had one pending sale before and that time I got the sale-pending message *before* the dispatch message (as you'd expect).
If worst comes to worst, and the pending payment is ultimately not cleared, will Amazon reimburse me?
Thanks,

Its rather an obscure book on nigerian groundnuts!
It was only printed in 78 and 79, mine is the 78 edt. Is one 79 one on Amazon for 17.42 (acceptable condition) and 3 78 ones with the huge price tag (2 from USA 1 from Ireland). Checked Amazon.com they have 2 at $137 and 1 at $960. Have found a site that does free valuations have sent off the details and am awaiting a reply.I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.

Sold two books but not expensive ones and checked that my selling prices were still reasonable on Amazon.
My Amazon payments seem to be decreasing each time after a really good start.
Now have 14 feedbacks but sold more before I had the feedback lol."This site is addictive!"

I have a bit of a problem - I sold a book on Monday night. Was just about to pack it up when I realised it was listed as a HArdback book, whilst it is a paperback. I immediately emailed the buyer and asked if he wanted to cancel the transaction and I would refund him or whether he still wanted the book.
I havent heard from him yet and dont know what to do bearing in mind that Amazon states you should dispatch within 2 days
