  • NETTY - I agree totally about the 1p books. You could understand if they were all new and eager sellers but you see some experienced sellers with really low prices too. They will be pro merchants so they get an extra 86 pence per sale but even so there really isn't a profit there.

You can out manouvre them a little by offering same day dispatch, 1st class post etc but that's about it.

If you have a book that is listed on Amazon but they do not have any for sale so there is no price, is there any way you can find out what they have previously sold for? For example when you want to find out a price on e-bay you can check it when it is completed. As I have a book that no-one is selling and I don't know how much to put it on at.

    Netty,
I have had a couple of those and had one today. It's really easy actually because once you have entered the details of the book, before you put in your price there is a box that says 'based on the condition of your book you should sell this book at £14.99' and it will also say if there is a person waiting for your book, which there was for me today - so fingers crossed. I did the exact price that amazon suggested with one person waiting and it sold in a matter of hours.

I've had a fantastic day today! Sold 8 items today! That is a record for me so am very excited, it's so weird because I sold none at the weekend but 8 today!!?

I think I've boobed. I have received £4.71 for the sale of a hardback book. I won't have much if anything left after postage. Oh well, you learn by yur mistakes.
The advice on here is great, I have some videos listed but having read other threads I am not reducing them if other reduce theirs. If they are too cheap then its pointless selling them. Our Post Office isn't within walking distance so I have to be careful as it can cost me more in petrol than I make if I'm not going to town anyway.
I was pleased today as Amazon emailed to say I have my first £30 on its way to my bank account.

Chelltune I try not to sell a video for less than £5.00 - as if I have paid even a £1.00 for it, after postage there is only a two pound profit or thereabouts.

You may recall last week that I sent the wrong book to someone, who said they would return it, but seemed very surprised to be sent a second hand book!

I then had an email from her to say she thought £23.00 was very expensive for a second hand book, but that she was ok about it being second hand(!) but that it had better be good! Did I force her to press that button?????

Well there is still no sign of the first book, and if she had sent it back even by second class it should be here by now?? Just having a moan........I had a feeling she was trouble from the start!

Did you check the value of your book elsewhere only quite often the buyer waiting offer prices are just a try on by dealers and the book should be priced considerably more than that shown? There are books on amazon with buyers waiting for a offer price of £ 5 where the book is actually worth hundreds

Also, its no surprise your book sold straight away - its an automatic procedure that if theres a buyer waiting and you match their price and required condition then Amazon automatically debit the buyers credit card and process the transaction.

That does seem a bit long, as mine normally take about a week. Perhaps call them?

Is there any way of listing an Open University Pack? Have tried the ISBN and searching but cant find it. Back in Uni now so bought 9 text books and the pack for a fiver. 1 of them was mint no other used only new, thought I'd list it for £20, did a check of the book found what i thought was a wad of paper that had been used as a book mark. On closer inspection it was the remains of chapter 11, some imbecile has ripped the whole chapter out! Bloody thing is worthless! Do you think it would be worth listing and saying the chapter is missing. Its not a novel so the chapters can be read individually? On the plus side have listed 6 for a total of £80, and 1 I'm waiting to list as the 3 copies on Amazon are selling for £385 and up which is a little unrealistic I fancy! Tried to value it but it only has american ones 1 at $100 and 1 at $960. Anyone got any advice on where to get a decent valuation have tried Abe and Bookfinder. Or should I just list it for £50 or something?
