After ages with no feedback, I'm now up to six 5/5s. Woohoo! It was super slow at first, but I didn't have any trouble selling when I didn't have any feedbacks at all.

How can you tell how many people have viewed your books?
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

I have had the best week so far on amazon, so am very happy.

I sold 19 items this week on amazon! Which is a record as I normally sell 7-10, so hubbie took me out for a meal to celebrate my success - which was very nice and sweet of him.

I also sold 2 books on ebay this week! I hate listing books on ebay and wish there was some sort of book listing software that picks out info from ISBNs - if someone ever develops that software I think they will make a ton! Anyway, I made an effort and am continuing to make an effort to list books in my ebay shop, I listed 12 on sunday night and had sold 2 by tuesday and got good prices for them too. The good thing is that on ebay buyers can make an offer (if you allow it) and that is how I made my second sale.

I also did a bootsale today - and have been knackered all day because of it! Getting up at 6:30am on a sunday is not easy. I made about £21 profit, which I think is quite good for my first time. It was quiet this week because the weather was poor and my pitch wasn't that good, so I am hoping to improve on that next time by arriving there earlier.

Soolin - I am going to an auction on wednesday, I have never been to one before so wondered if you could give me some advice, I know you attend them frequently. I have no idea how a real auction works and what to look for in terms of books. I am very excited about it actually.
I am a fairly new pro merchant seller. Can anyone tell me what the sku code is? Amazon recommend that you use one, but what is it?

Cazmeg, the sku code is a way for you to identify your book to yourself. For example, if you have all your books in boxes, you might want to label the boxes, i.e a1, a2, b4 etc. Then when you list a book from one of the boxes you put that code in the sku code box, then when you sell you know exactly where to find the book, a less formal code could simply be: kitchen, study, garage etc. whatever helps you find the book easier, particularly good if you have loads of books.

    Hi

If you have a book that is listed on Amazon but they do not have any for sale so there is no price, is there any way you can find out what they have previously sold for? For example when you want to find out a price on e-bay you can check it when it is completed. As I have a book that no-one is selling and I don't know how much to put it on at.

    Thanks

  • If you have this situation with no price to give you a clue try clicking on 'order it used' or however they put it (as if you wanted to buy the book) and they will often give a guide price for the buyer to say how much they would pay when they pre-ordered it - but you don't have to follow that - you could chance your arm and go higher, if someone really wants the book they might pay a bit more than a 'recommended' price - you can always lower it later if you want to

No sale in 6 days! My longest gap ever!
Due to the fact I still have about 70 boxes to unpack I haven't really had time to pick up new stock. Boot sale beckons next weekend I think!

Kat asked Soolin - I am going to an auction on wednesday, I have never been to one before so wondered if you could give me some advice, I know you attend them frequently. I have no idea how a real auction works and what to look for in terms of books. I am very excited about it actually.

I think they are all different but with the auction I go to at the moment any books are sold off in boxes, all jumbled together (mainly debt clearance siezed by bailiffs). I go down on the viewing day and make a note of the isbn numbers of a sample from each box, any thing that turns up decent books will get a bid from me. I also end up with lots of books to discard immediately and usually when I get home with my win I stack the books in piles, one pile Amazon, one Ebay and one charity shop. Very often the charity shop stack is the biggest, but as long as I have a few goodies in the Amazon and ebay pile I am happy.

I rarely buy novels unless they are mixed in with non fiction, but recently got first editions of the Satanic verses and The godfather which I sold for more than the cost of the whole box. I expect to pay between £5-£12 per box to which you must add 15% buyers premium and 15% VAT on the buyers premium. I did once get a box for £3 but ususally the auctioneer refuses to sell at less than a fiver.

I might be trying a new auction place next month, it is in a slightly posher area so I may get different items. I think it may well be worth trying different auction houses to test them all out.

    Hi all,

My sales have dried up again, whinge whinge! Let's give that a go first.

Now, for my question. Has anyone tried selling large print fiction? I've swapped for one of these, the regular paperback is a penny job, but there are only 2 large prints at £16. Just wondering how to price mine when it arrives. Any advice?

I have a whole batch of large print items, many of which are listed in excess of £10! So far though I have only managed to sell two larpe print fictions, both through ebay for £2 and £3 respectively, but with actual postage costs on top so that the item cost is all pure profit for me. Mine weigh a ton, so I think that accounts for the high Amazon prices.
