I've got a couple of language books that are not listed on Amazon under their ISBN numbers. They are older editions. However, there are newer editions being sold on the Marketplace, and one of the sellers listed the older edition (same as mine), under the new one, and has put in a note to say that this is a different edition (it's got a completely different cover and different number of pages, etc. Same author, publisher and name.)

Is this okay to do? I'd love to list mine as well, but since it's not the same ISBN I'm a bit unsure...

(I'm also convinced that even if I state it in huge letters that it's a different edition, I'll still get some numpty who's not going to read it and then complain:rolleyes:... or do I worry too much? :rotfl: )

There's been a bit of discussion about that. I personally have found they don't sell. Others have had them removed by Amazon (I think)!

  • just sold my first cd, but think I probably got the price wrong :-( I listed it for 70p (as that is what all the others seemed to be listed at) after Amazon fees I will be due 67p :-( - Does anyone know how much it is to post a cd? (this one will be going 2nd class for sure!)

    Hi Dormouse,

I had the same issue and I also had a book which Amazon were listing as hardback when it was the ISBN number for the paperback edition [their mistake I reckon]. I emailed them about both of these issues and their reply was that I could only list them if I took out a pro seller account as only items which EXACTLY matched the description could be sold otherwise.... Needless to say I didn't bother.

I am a fairly new pro merchant seller. Can anyone tell me what the sku code is? Amazon recommend that you use one, but what is it? Thanks for all the support and advice from this forum.

Is it only me ,or does anyone else find the selling fees on Amazon quite extortionate?

I find the fees for videos surprising. They are difficult enough to sell yet we get charged far and away more on their sales than on other items. The seller forums spend hours debating why this is.

Just playing devils advocate here - there is absolutely no way that I would have the time to list books on ebay (so tedious) so I would have never started selling books in the first place and I'd have been poorer for it and to my mind I see the increased fees as a sort of surcharge that I pay for the convienience of the amazon listing over the ebay listing.
I think that if you were to work out the listing time of say 30 books on amazon and compare it with ebay and relate that to the old proverb/ motto of 'time is money' because my income depends on how much stuff I can sell - and the speed that I can list it, wrap it and get it out to the PO all affect my income.
If listing 30 books on amazon takes me 30 mins as opposed to 1 1/2 hours on ebay and you relate that to say, an hourly wage of say £7 that means my listing on amazon and not ebay has 'saved' me £7, maybe my Amazon fees will soak most of that up but I'm swayed by the idea that until that books sells it doesn't cost me a penny to have the world come and look at it.

Apart from that - no paypal and no non paying buyers and also it could be argued that Amazon is giving ebay a bit of competition so that don't have the *whole* of the second hand market to themselves

Yahoo sold 1 CD & 1 book with payment pending..I agree though that the fees are expensive & its mad that postage is standard, esp for books...but hey its money in teh bank that is desperately needed!

At the moment I am still physically selling more books and vids on ebay than Amazon (I have an ebay shop so listings only cost 3p per month) but there is still that thrill of listing obscure books on Amazon and seeing copies listed for £30-£50.

My ultra expensive book though only made £20 at the end. There is only one other copy on abe books and Amazon at £150, and I listed at £100 and slowly reduced it every week until I hit £20 and it sold. As the entire box only cost me £5 and i have already sold others it was a good sale, but maybe shows some of the other prices on Amazon are a bit unrealistic.
