    Aaaahhhhhhh - I haven't sold a thing since the 28th!!

What is going on? I am so sad now because I had a great week last week, sold 2 £30 books (and about 6 others) so now I guess I am being punished!

Received my pallet of 2000 books yesterday! :j

Am going through them a box at a time and listing them by box rather than all at once, it will probably take me a few years to get through them all but its rather exciting. Because around 50% of them are old I have marked 3 piles:
    - Amazon
    - Green Metropolis/RISI
    - Bootsale

So I listed my very first items on green met and RISI, I know that GM will be very slow, based on what you guys have mentioned, especially because of their system, it says they only list 1 or 2 of the same item at a time and rotate when the item sells, but it is done in date order of listing the item, that would be why the sales are slow, probably because your books haven't even been on the site until right before it sells. No worries, I can wait.

RISI is brilliant, listed about 50 swaps and have gotten 10 requests in 12 hours. I have requested 18 books myself, I love the way you can click straight through to amazon, helps me choose which ones will sell, HOWEVER, am I missing something? Because I found some student textbooks on there that are on amazon for like £30-£40, I am eagerly awaiting a swap for those, but why would someone want to swap that when they could sell it on amazon? I figure they have no idea about amazon, they have no inclination to sell or these people are entering the item by title rather than isbn and therefore the newest edition is coming up when really they have one that is 10 yrs old, guess I will see when I receive one.

So I have 4 swaps to send when I get home...so far! It's pretty exciting really and is taking my mind off of not selling on amazon.

vip -bargain - I'm afraid that purple was right, you have to ask for it to be sent back and then you refund, it seems really rough but we've had discussions on here before but the customer has the upperhand with this and can ask for (demand, I suppose) a refund for any reason but if I remember correctly they pay for the return postage.

Thanks guys. I just checked and I do have the Post Office receipt. I sent it standard parcels at a cost of £7.70, the item weighed 2.6kg. It was in its original packaging which contained those white polysterne blocks (I forgot the proper name). I also wrapped the box in a couple layers of bubble wrap. I suppose it could still have got damaged in the post as you never know how parcels are treated but I was surprised. I didn't have any extra inusrance.

So from what you guys are saying. I should message the buyer explaining I will give a full refund including the set
delivery fee charged by amazon only after they have returned the goods in their original packing.

What happens if the buyers says I should reimburse them the costs of sending the item back? Do I have to pay for that too? I'm gonna be totally out of pocket.

Think I'm going to stick to just selling books on Amazon in the future.

Please don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure you will be able to claim with Royal Mail if it is them that is at fault PROVIDING you had adequate insurance on it, if it sold for less than £32 then Stanard Parcels will cover it anyway (I think).

Yes you'll have to give the buyer the original price back inc postage BUT NO MORE (I.e not the postage it costs them to send it back to you), you can do this by going into the item on your Amazon account & refunding them & you will get your fees back then.

The amazon A-Z guarantee is here, I hope that most of your queries are covered, I'm afraid that I've no experience of accepting a return so I don't know how it will work in practice, keep in touch and let us know how you're going on with this

I've just had my first sale on Amazon.

    1. Do you use first or second class postage?

    2. Whats the ettiquette? Do I email the buyer when I despatch it as I would with eBay?

    3. I don't have a printer, is it essential that I include the print out?

    Many thanks,

    Hi Chelltune,

    Welcome to the club!!

I tend to use 2nd class postage for the majority of my books unless I feel I am late in posting out (ie more than 2 days after I've received the order).
REMEMBER TO GET A CERTIFICATE OF POSTING just in case the Royal Mail develope a black hole and your parcel goes awol - at least then you will be able to claim for it. Please don't worry too much though as this doesn't really happen that often!

I send an email out when I have despatched the book - just as you would on Ebay. I feel it's polite and the buyer then knows that you have received the order and the book is on its way.

Don't worry about printing out the packing slip - I used to hand write mine and had no complaints whatsoever. I now use half preprinted ones where I just hand write in the order ID title etc. You only need the few lines from your Sold Depsatch Now email where it says 'Packing Slip'

All the best and heres to more sales!
