Not a massive profit - about £5 on a 39p charity shop book but its a good start. Thanks to everyone for their advice and encouragment. Wouldn't have done it otherwise :T :grouphug: :A

Thank goodness for that!
BTW we have 4 cats so I understand your delight at having a moggy household0 -
Hi everyone ... this is my first post on this thread, although I have been following it for some time - I think it's one of the best on the whole of MSE!
A BIG 'thank you' to Apprentice Tycoon, Soolin and everyone for their excellent advice and encouragement :A which has motivated me to clear decades-worth of accumulated books on Amazon.
Like the rest of us here, I've caught the bug, to the extent that I took out a Pro Merchant subscription last month. I was pleased I'd done this, as I sold about 45 books in four weeks.
However, I've also been caught out by this scheme; at Easter I put my listings on holiday settings for a fortnight, and in the flurry of packing, didn't cancel my PM sub, which had a couple of days into my holiday to run.
I've had an email from Amazon to tell me that my sub's been renewed, so I emailed back to ask if the clock was already ticking for another month, even with 10+ days of holiday still to go, and the answer was yes!
I'd had a look on Amazon and hadn't been able to find any info on this - only that if you did the standard listings (ie. non-PM), the 60-day listing period was suspended during holiday settings, but this is not apparently the case with a PMS.
I thought I'd mention this in case anyone in a similar situation is unaware ... I'm hoping for an avalanche of orders before my four weeks are up!0 -
Hi Bats, I'm so glad that you've done really well with your sales, it's a bit of a bummer over the holiday settings, I haven't had the chance to go away since I went pro so I'd never considered if it would be paused for a period of time. Thanks for the info0

Well, I tried my first ever car boot sale this morning and was rather disappointed. It's great if you want cosmetics or clothes but slim pickings on the books. They were few, old, poor condition and priced at about what I'd expect from a London charity shop.
So I think I will give it another go tomorrow and see. It was worth the outing, though, as I visited a charity shop and found a book on the Turner prize which was listed on Amazon at £28. We'll see if it sells or not. It's in near new condition so let's hope someone wants it.
Does anyone here have experience selling books about art? Do they sell well?'Everyone loves to read but it can be a real nuisance when you lose your place. Here's a solution. When you finish reading a page, just tear it out. You'll save money on bookmarks too!' -- Amanda's Handy Hints, Amanda Keller. :cool:0 -

One of my auction boxes of books were mainly art ones, several were already listed in excess of £50 and one was on Amazon and Abe at £150. I have never sold a single one and nearly all of them are down to the £10 or lower mark and the expensive one, still showing on Abe is down to £15. The dear ones from other sellers are holding their prices but also not selling.
I don't think I am a good measuring stick though for what sells as I have stuff listed in apparently popular categories that I haven't sold either.

Jolaaled wrote:can anyone tell me when to go for Greenmetropolis, rather that amazon for selling??
any tips for Greenmetropolis??
do you get paid quickly?
any info would be kewl !
I've only sold one book on Greenmetropolis but I've only got 10 listed. It took a few months for that book to sell so not worth bothering with if you need the money quickly!
The one I sold was listed on the 50 Bestsellers List on Greenmetropolis. If I list anymore on there I will probably only bother with those on there that are worth less than on Amazon.
The book that I did sell was available for less than £1 on Amazon so I did end up with more money from the sale but, as I said, it was a long wait.0 -
You can enter feedback for your buyers if you want to (up until about a year ago they used to encourage it) but unlike ebay where you want to praise prompt payment etc there isn't anything to really praise your buyer for, if they hadn't paid then there wouldn't have been a order so it's hard to think of something useful to say.
It's a courtesy if you have the time and inclination0 -

I don't have an answer being v new but I was also wondering whether gardening books sold? Not the huge tomes which would cost too much in postage but some smaller ones - anyone any experience?
Also saw quite a few craft books and wondered about them too........?
Cheers
