    Hi everyone

Had to go to the hospital with my Dad today and found out he has prostrate cancer. Not very nice news just a month before Xmas. They have said that hopefully they can treat it with tablets and injections but he has to have a bone scan in the next few weeks to make sure it hasnt spread so keeping fingers crossed.

    Congratulations to Scattymam.

Have a question to ask, my daughter bought some bottles of fizz in glass bottles. The idea was to drink all the fizz then wash out the bottles and fill them with sweets for her friends. Trouble is when we went to take off the labels they are not paper ones but plastic like sticky back plastic. They peeled off but have left glue on the bottles. We have tried everything we can think of to remove the glue but its not coming off. Have tried soaking them in washing up liquid, bathroom cleansers, nail varnish remover (acetone and non acetone) even paint stripper but they still sticky and dont look nice.

She was hoping to leave the bottles clear and fill with different coloured sweets in layers but we are thinking now we might have to print some labels and stick them over the top. Any one have any ideas?

I'm so sorry Rufus :( if it is any condolence to you it is the "best" kind to get and very common in older men. Doesn't make it any easier at all but I know lots of people who have lived with it for years. If I can help at all with anything please let me know. Scattymam was very very helpful to me when I went through family cancer this year, I wouldn't have known what to do without her xxx

Have you tried "Sticky Stuff Remover" that is what it is called? that usually does the job!

Hello all and thanks for your kind thoughts. OH ended up going to hospital on his own.........I felt so lousy when I got up coughing and sneezing everywhere............OH thought best not spread my germs all round hospital. Just as well as it turns out. Procedure went according to plan and they like OH so much they're keeping him till tomorrow.................lol
Actually, doctor can't get round to see him till 11 tonight -bit late for him to be driving himself home and I'd have had to ring foster daughter to come and fetch me had I gone. I know what that hospitals like for getting hold of a doctor................earlier this year I was in for ten days..........saw doctor when I got there then saw another one the day I came home ! Easier to find needle in a haystack and the annoying thing is, doctor was doing his rounds at 6pm, got called away to a patient I was told.................(methinks he went for tea break or dinner or something ).......five hours later he can see OH !! So, he''ll be home sometime tomorrow..........no-one can tell me roughly when..............well if he's seen the doctor tonight and his obs are all fine why can't he be back in the morning ? Oh I don't know..............all beyond me................starting to wish we'd gone private but not sure whether it would have made a lot of different. Be another week before we get results I expect.........normally is...............ho hum.............
So, rant over about hospitals and doctors..........bit of a 'nothing' day due to feeling 'carp'................lets hope tomorrow is better,
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

So sorry to hear the news about your Dad sending you an your family positive thoughts

apparently WD40 removes sticky bits from labels etc that is left behind. no idea if it is true but worth a try. Most makes seem to have some of this around even my hubby who doesn't know one end of a hammer from another.

Like the idea of empty glass jars filled with different coloured sweets, might try that, think I have some ribbon somewhere as well.
