Which is exactly why publishers run these 'competitions'. I think they're immoral, and don't enter students work in them, though I know it can be a thrill for kids to see their work published. (For what it's worth, I prefer to run an in-house event, and create our own books from the printing resources we have in school - then you create the perameters of what gets published and why, and every child can have one - at cost if necessary - without some cynical marketing company exploiting parents' natural pride in their childrens achievements.)
Why not ask the school if the library will be buying a copy? All the kids and parents will be able to see it whenever they want, without the need to shell out a lot of money for what is, in reality, simply one poem in print. I think they should, really.Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0 -

I totally agree, I won one when I was about 12 and my parents would have loved to get the Anthology it was in but it was about £15 which seeing as that was about our food budget for the week was just out of the question so we never got it. Luckily I was a very understanding child and didn't pester them to get it but I couldn't understand why I didn't get one free for being in it!June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

totally agree its just a money making scam, gd for the child but not the parent,
School library...... thats a joke, the school doesn't have money for books to the extent that the PTA are having to give them £1,000 for the basis of reading books, never mind any fancy extras.
They've even refunded teachers for books they have brought themselves to teach the children with.
Its one poem, I would like you prefer the in-house, but that doesn't make money xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Either their budget is worryingly up the creek, or somebody's spending it on other stuff than books - technology, perhaps? The school budget is there for things like books - it's a pretty basic purchase.... PTFA money should be buying the 'little extras' not reading books, library books, teaching resources and the like.Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0

Hello all :j
Think I overdid it clearing up the spare room yesterday........felt whacked this morning when I eventually got out of bed so all I've done is sit and make a few cards that were needed ...........cleared it all away and spotted the flower pots I'd brought in, washed and dried all ready to paint for my fir cones.........daft me -could have done that instead:rolleyes:
Oh, also re-vamped one of the little diaries I'd recovered so it's more suitable for foster daughter and did her a key ring post it holder as well.
OH got caught in the rain this afternoon (tempted to say he should have stayed in but thought best not.......lol) so he's now recovering in a sort of 'doze' position on the sofa.................lol
Desk still an untidy mess...............couldn't face it today..........oh I do keep putting it off and really must do it !!
Parcel I sent to youngest son arrived today -posted it Wednesday 1st class............knowing him he probably had a card popped through the door and had to collect it.
I'll post another one or two maybe next week.........get them out the way.
Off to see what else is going on or what I've missed today in the virtual world..................:oI would be unstoppable if only I could get started !
