It makes it clear that it's a free trial of the Amazon Prime shipping method, and even pops up a warning/information screen, and has made it very clear since it started that it was a free trail that people will get charged for if they didn't end the trial.
At the checkout we're offered this. I've highlighted a couple of key points.
Which then gives further information here
It's pretty clear that it's a free trial of a faster shipping method, without even any "small" print as the information on cancelling is the same font/sizing apart from headers as the rest of the text, and in a prominant position - the only small print is the full details at the bottom, and even that isn't particularly small.deltatango

If I went into your pockets and pulled out 20pence without your knowledge (then you caught me after) would you still call the police?
Unfortunately the Prime trial isn't without your knowledge.
Whats happened is you didn't bother reading anything and low and behold it's someone else's fault!!0 -

From Amazon's Prime information pageCan I cancel my membership to Amazon Prime?
Visit the Manage Your Prime Membership page. You can either set your membership to expire at the end of the current term and continue receiving benefits until the end of the current membership period or cancel and stop receiving benefits immediately. If you or your registered guests haven't made any eligible purchases we'll refund your full membership fee.
For any trial or other promotional memberships, you can cancel these at any time by going to the Manage Your Prime Membership page and clicking "Do not upgrade".0 -

For once in my life I have impressed my youngest DD. She had ordered some things on amazon and was delighted when they arrived the next day and puzzled when I told her to check her account and make sure she had not signed up for a trial of Prime as she would eventually be billed about £40.
She looked me with a slightly pitying expression but must have checked because the next day I got an e mail saying how glad she was I had tipped her off as she had in fact signed up for this without realising the eventual cost. She now thinks I am not as out of touch as she thought
She only uses that site a couple of times while I use it much more often but even so I still find that sometimes the Prime option is ticked automatically and I have to be careful to oft for genuine free postage IYKWIM."This site is addictive!"

I signed up to the free trial of Prime when I was ordering presents for Hubby's birthday and wanted to guarantee they arrived quickly.
I got an email telling me I'd signed up and how to cancel though I can't remember if it actually told me the date my free trial expired.
I went onto my Amazon account and cancelled using the email as a guide.
All very simple and clear IMO!
Elona, I will remember to check that Prime isn't ticked next time I shop on there, thanks.0 -
