I disagree that people that signing up to Prime by accident with the charge should own up to 'making a mistake'. I am quite happy to admit my shortcomings when I make a genuine mistake.
Personally I am a little annoyed by the actions of the sneaky barstools at Amazon in this case.
Whether the 'free delivery' box was checked already or not I did not get the impression I was signing up for a trial service let alone a anything charged at 49.50 a month.
Sure its always good to check the small print and I will in future however I trusted Amazon to be more upfront. I appreciate getting a refund so not all bad and I would still consider using their service in the future. I am pretty computer savvy myself but the other factor is the large percentage of people (particularily elderly) that are not and would have been less able to check what they were signing up for.
Also if I want to order something in a hurry as often is the case why should I have to pick through checkboxes making sure I am not signing my soul away to lucifer. Underhand is definitely the word.
I wonder if the supporters here are earning a few bob from various companies to be condescending because I don't like your tone.0 -

Bill176,
Your post was fairly sensible, right up to the last paragraph that is.I wonder if the supporters here are earning a few bob from various companies to be condescending because I don't like your tone.
With those few words you would have totally lost any support or respect for your opinion from many posters.
Saying that someone who has a different opinion must work for the company concerned is one of the weakest comments that gets posted on these boards by people who don't anything better to state.0 -

Thank you for saying this. I too am sick and tired of being accused of working for companies I am 'defending' in the forum, as is happening more and more recently, being 'employed' to post.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Me too.I disagree that people that signing up to Prime by accident with the charge should own up to 'making a mistake'. I am quite happy to admit my shortcomings when I make a genuine mistake.
But he's wrong.
He has made a mistake.Whether the 'free delivery' box was checked already or not I did not get the impression I was signing up for a trial service let alone a anything charged at 49.50 a month.
It explains what the Prime free trial is all about.
You just didn't read it.Sure its always good to check the small print and I will in future however I trusted Amazon to be more upfront. You don't need to check the small print, Bill.
And I'd strongly disagree that you're pretty computer savvy.
You made an elementary mistake on a website that is clear about Prime trial.
I know because I placed an order last week.
It offered me the Prime trial.
Unlike you, I read about it and declined.
I'd suggest that when you're sat at your PC with your credit card in your hand, you engage your brain before clicking on 'Buy'.
Also if I want to order something in a hurry as often is the case why should I have to pick through checkboxes making sure I am not signing my soul away to lucifer. Underhand is definitely the word.
I think the 'hurry' was where you went wrong.
You were just slapdash.I wonder if the supporters here are earning a few bob from various companies to be condescending because I don't like your tone.
Well, you know, Bill - I don't like your tone or your insinuations either, so I guess that makes us even.0 -
I've used the month's trial of Amazon Prime. They were absolutely upfront about what was offered and what the cost was. Perhaps it was because I actually bothered to read what I was agreeing to, then reviewed it in the confirmation email..0

Exactly, pmduk - but can you get those 'computer-savvy' people to believe you?
Not a hope in hell - because they can't/won't admit they aren't anywhere near as computer-savvy as they believe themselves to be.0 -

The Amazon Prime deal is misleading and the point I made about older folk I think is most poignant. Imagine granny ordering through amazon and not noticing a box ticked or ticking it. I guess these are exactly the sort of people to not check their statements regularly either and the people that can be exploited.. I mean benefited by such deals.
Where on the initial 'free trial' does it explain that past a certain date you will automatically be added to the full prime account and be charged accordingly. In the small print I presume.
Amazon is a good company and its nothing personal but I guess I had too much faith in them when it comes to ethics. Small print is a filthy invention and I would never treat a customer this way in any business whether I am raking in as much as I would like or not. As I said its not crime of the century and I will use Amazon anyway but its behavior I would expect more from one of those stupid mobile phone companies.0
